The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2016

Almost every college and university that was once said to be targeted by the Tufts Syndrome has denied it. I don’t know what to believe, but yes, it seems plausible that some universities would reject outstanding candidates to protect their yield.
But then I wonder how overly qualified are we all here at CC who have anything but rejections so far? XD

Apparently 60 to 70% of accepted students at some top schools, eventually decide to attend other schools. Now, I don’t know if these schools accept twice as many kids as they need during regular admissions or if they slowly accept kids off the waiting list as accepted kids decline to enroll. I would think a little bit of both.

http://www.usnews.com/education/articles/2009/04/06/what-to-expect-if-you-were-wait-listed

still waiting for swarthmore to send my rejec…err…decision…

On average, it seems about 10% of the waitlisted kids are accepted:

However, at some schools, such as Penn State as many as 80% of waitlisted kids are accepted.

This is for all those who have started feeling dejected and abysmal.

The person who got into vassar from kgs also got into WUSTL with 45k aid

damn… no swarthmore today either :/

about 22 and a half hours now!

Tomorrow will be crazy.

any luck so far, youshallnotpass?

2 Emory and 1 UCSB…

a friend from school (LGS JT) got into Carleton with 55k aid!

woho damn … what were his credentials?

gtfotu, so that would be Imperial, Vassar and WUSTL. Not bad.

@alibhai who got into carleton?

@alibhai sure it is carletob college not carleton uni??

hahaha yes, I am sure. Carleton uni doesn’t even give aid. He’s the headboy from my school. 13A*s O level, 2160 SAT1, all As I think in A level transcripts, been a member of the national debating team for 3 years, won lots of national debating competitions.

@alibhai. The best I’ve got so far is a waitlist from Lafayette. :p

@ 355- hmm, you’re right…even though I don’t make much of colleges saying/denying anything about their inner workings (most of the time they’re just SOO politically correct I find it…superhuman XD) but in any case- yes, the odds about the tufts-syndrome-theory seem a bit too abysmal what with just SOO many alleged ‘victims’…

Another possible explanation, though I have zero statistics whatsoever to back it up, is that I feel there are TOO many applicants this year applying to just…TOO many places. The average seems to be around 7-10 unis, which is just ridiculously high in my opinion.

Add to that the fact that aid for internationals is prolly getting tighter, and the number of people requiring more and more aid is multiplying by the second, so I bet people who can afford to attend have a higher leg up this time around, at least among the need-aware schools.

However, theories there are aplenty, and no matter what happens tonight, we’ll never really know. So it all boils down to- CHILLAX for the next 11 hours =D

It’s a tough break buy the aspirations will never cease
