The OFFICIAL School of Cinematic Arts Discussion 2009

roar2112- the guy’s shirt getting ripped off is a little compositing job. In reality there were two takes and one of them had our Assistant Director crouching near Jason (the lead) and physically ripping his clothes off and tossing them into the dryer. Prior to filming I had bought two identical pairs of clothing. I pre-cut one of the sets of his clothes and glued some velcro to the inside so that it would look like it was still sealed if we needed to do several takes. So now I have a pair of jeans that I can just rip off whenever I feel like  .

Anyway, I hope we hear something soon. One way or another.

luckygirl1791,

I agree. Just getting in would be enough. I am also fairly confident in my writing samples, etc, and feel that it’s the only thing I’ve ever been good at. Typically, from what I’ve heard, transfers do hear back later. They also usually apply later. I, on the other hand, did not. My application to the Writing Program was due on Dec. 1st, just like everyone else in writing. I would convince myself to stop worrying and wait until other transfers hear back, but in reality, only about 26 writing students get accepted. If two have heard back, that means that they’ve already looked at my material and are either still deciding or have chosen to reject me, as far as SCA is concerned. And I don’t think they’ll make me wait, if they have decided. That’s sort of cruel, and if a college really wanted a student, I think they’d let them know a.s.a.p so that they could accept, rather than give up hope and accept another schools offer. USC is the only school I’m considering currently. I have a degree in film crit., and if I’m going to go for my BFA, I want it to be a damn good school that’s worth the dinero. Anywho, good luck to you. Please keep me posted on your mail situation. I think we’re the only writing ones on here, so I’m mainly banking on your news to determine my own.

Oh, and sadly, my last update was 12/23. Don’t know what it means, but again, I’m guessing that it’s because I’m not an incoming freshman, nor am I currently enrolled in school.

I went to the Facebook USC Class of 2013 and counted the SCA admission posts.

There are not that many posts, but here is what I found.

2-Production from Missouri
1-Production from Pine View H.S.
2-Screenwriting from CA
1-Screenwriting from Wisconsin
1-Animation
1-Critical Studies
1-Interactive E.-CA
1-Production-CA
1-Production-Spanish River H.S.
1-Critical Studies --Recd. admittance on 3/25

That voids my theory.

Ughhhh, I am so sick of waiting. I am also a transfer. I was updated on 3/19. I am stressing like crazy, and have become enemies with me mailbox like roar.

Georgia Girl,
Could you send the link where you found the SCA facebook posts? I’m specifically looking for the Screenwriting/Writing folks to try and figure out when they got their acceptance package and if any are transfers.

EDYE28,
I went obsessively looking for all these people accepted to writing on facebook, and the one thing I can tell you is that I’m pretty sure none of them are transfers. From what I counted, there were five of them–but maybe I misinterpreted one of the posts or something. Anyway, I took that pretty hard because what you’ve said is completely right: they would’ve told us by now, too. Maybe they’re deliberating. Or maybe they’re holding rejection letters to be cruel, or something. At this point, I’m pretty frustrated. I completely agree with you about USC pretty much being the only school that’s worth it–I’m a high school senior, and I really didn’t want to consider any other place, even though the reality of it is that I have to. I mean, I got accepted to LMU in the same major, but I’m questioning if, at the same price as USC, it’s even worth it. I don’t know. I’m kind of clueless.
If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get your degree?
Anyway, good luck to you as well. I’ll definitely keep you posted.

Here are three more from the other SC Facebook group.

1 more Animation - TX
1 Animation -
1 Production -TX

Go to Facebook. Use search tool. Click on USC Class of 2013. The page should come up. There are discussion topics. You will find the SCA posts there. This group has the photos at the bottom of the page.

Other SC Facebook group…Click on USC Class of 2013-Official. Same process. It is confusing as there are two groups with the same name, except for official. This group has the three SCA admits listed under majors. One is a duplicate from the other group. This particular group does not have the photos at the bottom of the page.

On a positive note one of the admits received her packet yesterday. Keep in mind this is just a handful of admits. Many freshmen will not post. Have any of you checked MySpace?

Was that person production
?

The last person who posted was admitted to Critical Studies. I checked the high school. It is in Pennsylvania.

Just posted here…the rower just posted she was admitted to Production. She had a phone interview last week. The packet arrived today, Thursday. She is from Indiana.

I think that the TX Animation and the TX Productions on facebook are my friend Catie and I.

the rower posted she was accepted to SC, but is waiting to hear about SCA. Sorry.

Ugh. Just got back from checking the mail. NOTHING.

The mailman doesn’t visit me for another three hours. :(

:) Still a chance!

Roar- I hope you have better luck than I do! haha. Theres still several days left until April first…but I feel the end is nigh.

The end is nigh indeed. It’s raining like mad where I am and I think the mailman’s taking the day off. Grrr.

Just got back from the mailbox.
Still nothing.
I swear I get a little nauseous every time that little tin hatch opens up.

luckygirl1791,

I took my generals at Whittier College in California, which included some East Asian Film Analysis courses, as well as a course or American Screwball Comedies. I then returned home to Minneapolis(Whittier was $35,000/yr) and went to a local Minneapolis State college, where my main film professor was actually a USC Production graduate with a great film record. His unique take on film, along with his enthusiasm for the craft, made me want to look into the school he graduated from. I’ve also had some of my film essays looked at by Minneapolis filmmaker John Koch, and I volunteered at his store, Cinema Revolution, for about two years. I’ve got a 4.0 and, I think, great written examples, so yes, to hear that others have gotten in already, makes me really bummed. Maybe they’re just not into many transfers, or perhaps don’t think that they would really be willing to start all over. It might also be that they’d like to teach things their own way, or there were tons of better suited individuals. All I can do is wait for that rejection letter, then. But really, I say that with the hope that I’ll be overwhelmed with optimistic glee when an acceptance package arrives…

Wait a minute, aren’t transfers supposed to be notified around JUNE?? Why are you worrying now?? Just because some people have gotten in already doesn’t mean they made all their decisions MONTHS ahead of when they were supposed to.
