@jane- rescinded? God that has to suck- good for you though for doing TAG now. A lot of people would be spirit-crushed after that.

I didn’t have the good sense to TAG- we’ll see how that works out.

@ jane: Thanks for the advice. You’re right, I doubt that I could endure the nonsensical chatter and overall depressive state of my CCC for another year. I like Davis, so I could probably just go there (I Tagged), but I really want Cal lol. Hopefully it won’t have to come to backup options, but ya never know :/.

lol @ evan… They’re probably very similar- how many students? Pierce has about 26,000, but I’m fairly certain they are not all there at once. :p

its the opposite with me. i can only see myself at 2 schools really: stanford(the mexican restaurant) and ucla(the princeton look-a-like). although i love berkeley as well, idk, it just doesnt feel AS right. ps. you will loose your soul. community college is like a massive black hole that just sucks the very life from you until you are one of those middle aged men sitting in an intro to (insert subject here) class constantly suffering from arthritis because you keep raising your hand to highlight key points that the professor covered about 22.4 seconds before and articulate your thoughts on how the young man/woman sitting next to you who wants to transfer to ucla/berk/stanford is the smartest person in the room and how you hate them for making you feel dumb.

kernlsanders-i was spirit crushed especially being on UCLA’s Anthro departments mailing list and seeing all the cool things they have to offer.

i saw the other side for a brief period and i liked it.

@jane ucla? how unfortunate. i honestly think i would die inside instantaneously if i got rescinded from ucla.
kudos to you for moving forward

@Kernl- I’d say SD City College has about 25-30,000 students. Bah humbug!

@jane- are you going again for anthro or did you switch majors?

I want to get into UCLA so bad I can taste it (but for poli sci- intl rel)… so cliche but it’s true. I’m very lucky that the army is sending me away to a leadership school for 2 weeks in April to keep me busy. I JUST HAPPEN to get back on April 23rd…

funny how fast this thread grew. and to think, its 1:30am too.

thanx SFwarrior25 it was horrible :(

kernalsanders- same major so i probably have the same exact chances as last year, i wrote the same essays (under the advisement of a lot of UCLA people who reviewed apps for Fall 2009)
the thing im worried about is how the budget cuts plays into it.

@ SFwarrior: I laughed out loud reading that because I know SOOO many old people that are exactly like what you just described. They’re dissheveled and unshaven. Their matted hair is always astrewn haphazardly about their scalp, and their voices are always creaky and dry. They attempt to make a semi-pretentious comment on the topic being covered, but they’re merely inhibiting everyone else’s learning.

Then there are the guys that conglomerate in the back corner. You know the ones. They laugh absurdly loud to something that is likely not funny, and they whisper in shrill tones as the professor lectures. Sometimes they just talk, other times they don’t show up (conspicuously all absent), and other times they’re just plain annoying. Ahh yes, perhaps the black hole that is Comm. College would turn me into one of those.

Or perhaps I would reemerge as one of those pseudo-intellectuals. The guys who walk around with their heads up high and pleading for students to sign their petition to sign Prop A and then B. The same guys that order exotic coffees, and speak loudly so others hear them. The guys that pull out their laptops slowly and in the center of the cafe for everyone to take notice. The guys that talk a big game, but have little to show for it.

Alas, Comm. College has sucked enough life out of me. So much, that I have to come here to be around those like myself that are suffocating each day in these places. I’m glad we’re all in this together lol.

cue Journey- Don’t stop believing

I know most people, including me, have the same old complaints about the people in their junior college classes which makes me wonder why more people don’t take online classes. I know it’s not an option for a lot of classes but for most of the impacted classes (bio, eng, etc) it is, yet they fill up much slower than your traditional class. The majority of my classes have either been strictly online, or the kind where you just show up 3 times a quarter to take a test and that’s your grade. I know there’s probably a lot of personal preference involved but is there something about online classes that are unattractive or is it purely an availability issue?

Maybe most schools don’t even have them, I really have no clue. I would assume that the major ones do though.

Well, my views on online education are simple. I took an online class once, and I felt completely helpless when it came time for grading and such. It’s just too impersonal for me. I understand the convenience of it for some people, but I MUCH prefer being able to actually be in the classroom.

I’ve taken 2 online courses: Astronomy and Abnormal Psych.

Literally in Astronomy: This class included 1 midterm, 1 paper, and 1 final for the entire course. Both the mid-term and final were take-home…yeah extremely easy class.

Abnormal Psych: This one is hard…if you put it off until the last minute like me. I have to do 7 chapters of notes (they’re graded), a 7 page paper on something from the DSM-4, and do 7 loooong study guides for this half of the semester (due: 3/20).

Needless to say, I just began yesterday, and have been pretty much working non-stop.

I don’t mind online classes overall. I think they’re more convenient and can be great if you’re a good self-teacher and have good time management skills. The latter of which I don’t have.

However, I LOVE night classes. I’ve been taking 3 per semester the last 3 semesters. I’m totally in the habit of them, and will miss this option in the fall.

If anyone applied to ucr, please check if myucr works…

My UCR seems not working for me some reason…

Possibly they are uploading bunch of decisions…

you guys spend way too much time on cc, especially emil

Not true :).

I’m up. and I need coffee. -_-

hey hey guys, is there another batch for ucsd coming out?
