* The Official UC Transfer Late-night Discussion Thread*

Is anyone else here gonna miss their CCC? I’m gonna miss everyone I met at CCC. Most of the people I met are very motivated and intelligent (i just totally ignore like 90% of the rest of the people tho)

^ Yup, I completely agree. Specially some real great professors I felt actually cared about me as a student.

@Rwasko That sounds really interesting. I remember when I used to get to write fun papers . . . This semester I have extremely dull Lit classes. Blah.

So, what sort of gendered stereotyping?

i will miss my CCC i learned so much from the students and being on the Student Government has really made me appreciate how passionate and dedicated and serious some students are. the students have inspired me and i think students have so much power and voice.
i am so glad i found this out at CCC so when i go to UC i can be just as involved on campus.

The first episode of iCarly was appropriately named, “iMake Sam Girlier.” The character Sam is typically portrayed as a tomboy. Sam becomes concerned about her behavior because she has a crush on a boy named, Pete. She becomes worried about her negative personality traits because she believes that Pete is only attracted to “girly-girls.” Sam believes that her aggressive and unruly behavior is too boyish for Pete. To solve this problem, and get “the guy of her dreams,” she begs Carly to “teach” her to become more girly.

This is on television…for tweens… The entire episode is how girls should act to get a boy… She needs to wear certain clothes and act a certain way. Its like teaching dating standards to 8-12 year olds! Crazy!

You guys are lucky. I haven’t had school in December. All this free time really gets boring; not to mention how dead my brain will be once i start school at SD

I wrote a paper last week comparing Twilight and Thge Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen… super easy and fun. Mine was basically just talking about how Twilight depicts such an unhealthy relationship for teens while TTAF is just about the opposite. Its for my adolescent literature class. Super easy and fun!
I won’t miss my CC at ALLLLL. I was only there for a year and a half and since I was so busy with school and work I didn’t have time to get involved. I cannot wait to enjoy myself wherever I go. There are a few professor that I will miss A LOT.
My brother suggested that before I leave I get a letter of rec or two from some of them. He says it is one of the things he regrets not doing before he transferred.

@jane, what was your role in student government?

I’ll miss some of my teachers at my CC. They’ve all been pretty nice and understanding.

On and btw my last final is April 28th!!! Which means I will have all of April 29th and 30th with nothing to do but stress over Berkeley!

Me too. I’m going to take some summer session courses to hopefully ease into the faster pace.

@Rwasko Yeah, that sounds horrifying. I’ve never watched iCarly before but I’m not surprised. Feminism is like this giant pendulum swinging back and forth over the years. Sometimes it’s in vogue and sometimes it’s frowned upon in subtle, roundabout ways like this example. For some reason I feel like a lot of people our age (well, my age, I’m 20) are really into conforming to their traditional gender roles. At least, I see it a lot in people that age. In my Psych of Gender class, I was partnered up with this girl who proudly told me that she only wanted to be a stay at home mom and the only reason she was in college was so she had a backup degree in case her future husband ever died or left her. It kind of disturbed me.

@ VictoriaFelt, I totally had transferitis back in fall but, I’m done until fall quarter wherever I end up. And that’s awesome you are done with school so early! Good luck on getting into UCB!!

I’d love to be able to be a stay at home mom… but only until my kids were 5, and I still think I’d be involved with all sorts of mom stuff. I just am really into the idea of raising a family… although I am sure I’d get bored with it…

EmpathyInAnarchy- I am currently the Senator of Political Activism
i really enjoyed serving on Student Government and hope to continue at the UC.

I will miss my french professor, she is soooooooo awesome. :(

@VictoriaFelt Oh gawdddddd don’t get me started on Twilight! That book is trash. I read the first one and almost threw up. Most of my friends are really into it but know not to mention it around me by now because I can’t stop myself from making fun of it, haha.

Also, I think I will sort of miss my CC. I’ve been going there for 2.5 years now. A lot of people from my high school ended up going there so it’s been sort of like high school part 2 for me. Not that high school was super fun or anything, but I still miss that, so I’m sure I’ll miss my CC too.

@Victoria Yeah, I didn’t mean to put down stay-at-home moms. I just found it weird and annoying that her sole purpose for going to college was “just in case my man can’t take care of me.”

Thanks… I have been feeling like everyone around me lately has been telling me i will get in and now I am starting to feel confident which is in turn making me feel like it will not happen and I will be destined to be let down.
On the other hand I will feel a sense of relief that I am going to go to Humboldt and will be happy with that. But my pride wiill definitely hurt if I am rejected. It is exciting though the process of waiting. All the CSU’s I applied to I knew I’d get into so it was really exciting at all getting my acceptances…

Oh ya I know I think that is hilarious… but hey at least she has a back up plan? lol.
Twilight is AWFUL. Bleh. I did read all of them I have to admit but I have been reading garbage books since I was little. Every dumb little tween series or featured book and barnes and noble I bought. It’s weird I don’t watch TV or movies much but I could spend and entire day laying around reading and really enjoying it.
Anyone else having to cut themselves off from reading for pleasure and are excited to start their summer lists?? What is on yours?
Mine:
Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang (Chelsea handlers newest book! omg she is HILARIOUS!)

@Victoria Good luck! Is Humboldt your only back up?

@Victoria Oh man. I used to love to read!

Now I’m an English major.
Can’t enjoy it anymore :frowning:

I watch more television than you would probably believe, though. Good television, not like Jersey Shore or anything.
