Aw man. All the earlier dates were full when I signed up. Are you doing Transfer Edge, @freetofly112?

Are the early CalSO dates full? I can’t go to the later ones because I’ll be out of town late June until the 3rd of July. A big decision for me about Cal is if I am able to take the Econ class I want (101A), and I don’t want it to fill up.

@CSB111 Technically Econ101A is already full… I’m not sure how the econ department works, a lot of students may drop the class in the first week or they might add more seats, but even with an early-ish CalSO date you probably wouldn’t get directly into the class right now. It looks like there may be equivalent courses you can take for your requirements, or you could try contacting an adviser about the chances of getting the class you want?

You can poke around the schedule to see current enrollments: http://schedule.berkeley.edu/

@failure622

I emailed the advisor and she told me they set aside a limited number of seats for transfers for 101A (which looks like the 5 they have there), but there are no guarantees and she didn’t give me any more details. There is Econ 100A but that kind of defeats what I want to do (double with Applied Math) because it lacks the real “math” part. 101B is full too.

I’d be bummed if I couldn’t take it.

@csb111 did she say if there was more room in the 100 a/b course? I want to take the easier route and just go MBA lol.

@JewBacca Yeah, you’re guaranteed a spot in either of those.

Ahhhhhhhh Chicka, Chicka, yeahhhhhhh!!! Mclovin from superbad voice @csb111

@ocnative I have absolutely no idea. Are you? I really want to but somewhere deep down I’m afraid it will go horribly wrong and I’ll get rescinded hahaha

I wanted to do transfer edge for like an hour, then I didn’t want to come back to the US early, so ^^*

@ocnative I finally submitted my Miller Scholars application. How many letters of recommendation are you sending?

@Freetofly112

Lol I was afraid of getting rescinded also. It’s a bit expensive too just for the summer so I decided not to.

@oongaboonga

Awesome! I submitted mine this morning. I only sent one letter of recommendation because I did it last minute, argh lol. How about you?

I wonder when we hear back?

Not sure how to join in on this discussion because I don’t want to read through 134 pages in the forum, but I’m a transfer student registered for CalSo on June 23.

Are you all going to CalSo alone or with parents/guests? Did you opt for the 1 night housing + dinner?

I’m going alone and opting for housing. I’m debating whether to take a bus through Golden Bear Express or take a plane. I’ve never visited the Cal campus, so I’m unfamiliar and nervous about getting to CalSo and going through it by myself, so I just wanted to get some other people’s stories!

@ocnative Yeah, lets just enjoy our summer b4 everything gets intense. Have you figured out which classes you are going to take?

@sarajh I’m going alone. I did opt for 1 night housing, but no dinner as I’m heading out pretty much right after orientation. I’m so done with driving, so I’m going to fly. I don’t know where you live or where the golden bear express takes off from, but for me Cal is a good 8 hours away by car. No thank you!

I’m not going to calso as Berkeley International Office is still handling my paperwork and all but I can’t wait to meet you guys at school ^^ go bears

@ocnative I only sent one letter of recommendation too, realized too late that it’d probably look good if my supervisor from work also wrote me one. I’m pursuing a community service project. You?

@sarajh

Hey! I’m also going on June 23 and decided to opt for the Golden Bear Express because it was cheaper than a flight. I’m not bringing any guests and I’m doing the 1 night housing + dinner. Does anyone know where the housing will be?

@Freetofly112

I actually have no idea yet, lol. I’m still debating whether to double major or not. How about you? Are you planning on taking a car up to Cal?

@oongaboonga

I also thought of asking my supervisor from work but it was too late, lol. I’m pursuing academic research.

@ocnative I have a preliminary idea. I’m going to balance between philosophy and rhetoric. Either 3 classes Phil / 1 class Rhetoric or 2 classes Phil / 2 classes Rhetoric. I figure the only way I’m going to figure out if I want to double major or not is to start exploring the departments through their classes. What two majors are you considering again? And no way, public transport all the way!

@ocnative: heya. I’m really confused how to sign up for Golden Bear Express. I put down 1 Night Housing + Dinner, and is Golden Express included in that or how would I sign up for it?

I’m considering in a double major in Econ and PoliSci. I can’t stand the idea of doing Politjcal Economy though >.<
I have my PoliSci prereqs done and I still need 2 classes to fulfill my Econ prereq. No idea if this is even doable. Who should I talk to about it?

@moriartee Economics is capped, so you’ll need to enroll in all of the prerequisites you don’t already have completed, during your first semester. If you need a sequence (ie: A + B) then you might be SOL unless you can find the A or B part during summer so you can take the last one during your first semester at Cal.

In general regarding finding out if its doable to double major: You need to look at each department, check what classes must be completed for each major (which you haven’t completed yet), add their units together (so X amount for Polisci + Y amount for Econ), and then divide by 5. That will give you the amount of units you need to take every semester to be able to pull off a double major. Cal gives transfer students 5 semesters for a double. You can also look into summer session to help knock out requirements.
