@SoCalLife310 interesting! It sounds like you guys got a lot of valuable insight.
Do you know if the substance free housing is actually substance free?

@AnthroFlo
I think the Cloyne Court would definitely not be a problem. Since they just kicked out everyone who lived there previously and remodel the place over summer. The whole theme of that Coop is substance free. I wouldn’t say all coop are bad, but definitely check out in detail about each one.

@ocnative
I think if you pick the smaller coop you should be fine and not as out of control

Did anyone make it up to transfer day? If so, how did it go?

@AnthroFlo
Considering that i went to bridge, everything else was redundant… I really went there for my parents. For others, I think being able to ask questions face to face was most important

@Loyshi

Cloyne Court is right down the street from the other major co-op Casa Zimbabwe so my guess is everything will just double up there on the weekends.

@AnthroFlo

The speeches at the reception were really nice, especially the one from the first student. The resource booths were so hectic though…they picked a bad location!

@ocnative
Did you like the atmosphere of the school/surrounding area?

@AnthroFlo

I do like the atmosphere of the campus but not the surrounding area as much. Made me reconsider a bit if this is really where I want to spent the next two years.

@ocnative

UCLA would like to have a few words with you.

I mean, cuz, the architecture is pretty freakin’ nice and our campus has no bums.
Neighborhood’s nice too.

@Cayton

Lol…I will be revisiting UCLA very soon. I hear their food is better also.

@ocnative

It’s said to be ranked #2 in the nation!

But, in all honesty, where do you stand with Cal and UCLA now? 60/40 in UCLA’s favor? Or maybe 70/30 in Berkeley’s favor?

Funny thing @ocnative, it’s almost the opposite for me.
I love the UCLA campus but I think I might be more comfortable in the surrounding area of Berkeley, maybe because there are more trees?

@ocnative

I hated the Rieber food at UCLA. The food SHOULD have been good but it all tasted so bland and spiceless.

FYI I cook all my own meals so my pallet will be more refined than the typical person who lives off in n out and chipotle.

@Cayton

Well…I’m still leaning towards Berkeley because their Political Science department is much better and I enjoy the course varieties they offer. I feel like I’m being too drawn into the prestige factor though. So I would say it’s 60/40 right now.

@AnthroFlo

So it might be Cal?

@ocnative

Much better? The difference is minimal. :((

There’s nothing wrong with going to Berkeley because of the prestige, though.

Do you like everything else about Cal? Campus feel, the student body atmosphere, and all that other stuff? If you’re iffy about that, you may want to reconsider that school.

@ocnative got rid of his avi

@ocnative
It might be Cal. They have more (by more, I mean 3) courses in anthropology that are pertaining to environmental anthropology. They have more staff who have an emphasis in environmental anthropology. Their anthropology staff have higher ratings on rate my professor (I know it sounds lame, but it hasn’t guided me wrong yet). And Cal is a known feeder school to Stanford.

However, after looking at some of the other schools I got into, they all appear to have more environmental anthropology courses than Cal and UCLA; nonetheless, I like the Cal and LA campuses much better than the other unis and Cal and LA are also giving me more funding than any other schools…

But I’m not yet dead-set on Cal. I like the UCLA vibes more and I like the extracurricular activities that UCLA would offer me that Cal can not (aka stalking my favourite indie bands based in LA, and in case my sarcasm didn’t translate - I was kidding, sort of :p)

@Cayton

Haha…a very significant difference though! I do like the campus feel, the student body atmosphere seems really friendly actually (for the most part). There are other factors I’m just iffy about. The area surrounding the campus, housing, the unit ceiling, etc. Time for a pro and con list.

@chaoscuber

Yup
I’ll add one back when I make a decision, lol.

@AnthroFlo

Those are good factors to consider. The music scene is superb in LA, so you can’t go wrong there. Are you in norcal or socal?

@ocnative
Working in music is the dream for me, so that is why UCLA has such a strong hold on me, aside from a few other factors. I am currently up north. How about you, are you currently based in norcal or socal? From what I’ve heard Political Science is legit in both schools, unless there is something more specific that you are considering.

I went to the UCLA Bruin Day instead of Chancellor Day.

How was it? Any helpful info/tours? Any freebies?
