The Official UCB Fall of 2014 Decisions Thread

@moriartee it’s a risk, I am in the same boat…

@JewBecca yeah and I can’t even go o Calso :/

I am Econ major too. So what’s gonna happen if we couldn’t register classes we need?
Do we have to declare another major? :’(

@milkyy
Even though I am in a less competitive major, anthropology, I also wonder how this process works.
What if for whatever reason one can not get into their intended major? Does one just pick something else?
I don’t know about you guys but I applied as an anthropology major because I want to be an anthropology major, not because I felt like preparing myself as an anthro major at my CC only not to get into the major.

@milkyy‌

I heard that many alternatives for Econ majors at Cal are Environmental Econ and Political Economy.

@AnthroFlo‌

Well I hope you follow your heart and make a great decision…ahem…Berkeley :wink:

You’re guaranteed the two classes you need to declare.

Do you guys think there’s a difference between choosing an earlier or later date for CalSO?

Yes. An earlier date means you register for Phase 1 sooner. Which means you have a better chance at getting the classes you need.

@Freetofly112 Thanks for the info! Darn!! I saw June 13th yesterday but didn’t register. All the regrets :’(

@nowworried Heh. Is it full now?

@Freetofly112, yeah it wasn’t on the list of choices anymore. LOL

@nowworried hahaha bummer. I’m sure you’ll still get your classes no problem though :)

Damn, well if the first orientation is full that is making me more weary of Berkeley. I want to take Econ 101A and think they only hold 4 or 5 seats for transfers. I think I’d get in (most people transferring to Econ haven’t taken Calc 3), but it is risky. I’d be bummed if I was stuck in Econ 100A.

@Freetofly112 Thanks, I hope so… :stuck_out_tongue: Are you going June 13th?

@CSB111 I’m an econ major too! Is calc 3 a pre-req for Econ 101A? I hope we can both get our desired classes haha.

@nowworried Yes it is a pre-req. Most people don’t take it because its extremely math heavy, but I’m thinking about grad school in Econ or Finance so it is important that I can take it.

@nowworried No sir, I’m going to the one on the 9th :D

@Freetofly112 OH MY GOODNESS THERE IS ONE ON THE 9TH??? LOOOOLLL…wow. You’re definitely going to get all your classes then!

@CSB111 Oh wow, makes me glad I also took calc 3!

@nowworried What do you want to take? The Econ counselor told me that you are guaranteed Stats and one of the 4 Econ classes (so probably 100A/B).

@CSB111 Aw good question. I’m not too sure, but I was planning on taking 101A. But I guess if that doesn’t work out, I’ll do 101b. Why are you taking 100A instead if you don’t get 101A? I’m not too familiar with Berkeley courses if you’re willing to shed some light on this, it’d be much appreciated.

@nowworried If I can’t get into 101A then it is a problem with declaring. That will probably be the only class available, and taking 100A or 101A before B allows you to take electives. If I can’t take what I want, I might just switch to Applied Math or something. This is one of the reasons I am still considering UCLA.

You might also want to look at the notes/outline for 101A and make sure that is what you want to do. It is very intense, and consists heavily of LaGrange multipliers, partial derivatives, and the Hessian Determinant.
