Have you guys submitted your housing app yet? I’m not quite sure of how to list my preferences. I’ve heard that the dorms are a great place for socializing, but Wada seems tempting just because it has more space… suggestions?

@nowworried Wada is an apartment-dorm. Students are all upper division, but for the most part it’s still a whole lot of new students living together… a majority will be new transfers. I was in Wada this past year (senior, transferred year before)… half of the floor was super friendly, about half did their own thing and wouldn’t hang out with us. But in terms of social situation, Wada’s about the same as suite/mini-suite dorm options. I think the highrises tend to force people together a bit more because of tiny rooms and floor bathrooms, but I’m not sure the tradeoffs there are worth it.
In terms of the space itself, I’d say Wada is definitely nicer than the other options (except Martinez and possibly channing-bowditch).

Thanks for the reply @failure622! I think I might put Wada as my first choice then! :)

If you’re a younger transfer, definitely go for the dorms, as the dorms normally hold Freshmen and Sophomores who are 18-19. If not, Wada is the best choice with all kinds of life.

@imaplealot If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? I’m currently 19 so there isn’t much of an age difference for me. Are you planning on dorming?

I’m 19. Honestly I don’t want to live in the dorms with other people. I’m
anti-social like that. Kinda hoping I could just find a studio apartment :/

@nowworried: I’m a 1 year transfer, and I just turned 19! Upcoming sophomores are my age. I plan on dorming in the Units! My friends who have been 1 year transfers in the past really recommend it. We /should/ fit right in and get along with them very well as they are right in our age group. Wada has the transfer connection, but if you want the full college experience, I would go for the dorms.

Isn’t Wada considered to be off campus?

@moriartee Does that mean you’re going for off-campus housing for sure? I saw some “houses” being rented out near campus but I’m not really sure with what’s the dealio with that.

@imaplealot Oh awesome! I’m only 19 because I was born right near the cut off for school years haha. I’m really tempted to go to dorms because of all the experience we may get to have. There are some youtube videos are the doubles look pretty nice.

@AnthroFlo Unfortunately/fortunately it is considered off-campus. Have you decided between Cal and UCLA?

@nowworried: Just go for it! For my Housing app, I put Unit 1>2>3, Wada > any

I really hope I get one of the Units.

@imaplealot I did it! I listed the same preferences, all with doubles sans the any option. Maybe we’ll see each other haha

The off campus thing doesn’t matter unless you are getting a full scholarship that covers everything. Then you are actually losing the money.

It would be funny if our future roommates are the ones we’ve been talking to on this forum this whole time…but we’ll never realize it

I just SIR’ed.
looks like I won’t go away from this topic anytime soon ^^

@moriartee
One of us! One of us! One of us!

Beware of living with Jewbacca >:) >:) :-w hahahaha jk ;)

@JewBacca Are you Jewish?

No, I just like the name Jewbacca a lot @collegedropout1 lol =)) … I am NOT anti-Semitic and half of my family is jewish- I love jews!

I’m currently at Berkeley right now, and I just ■■■■■■■ love it here. It’s such a different feel than UCLA, and I think this is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life.

@moriartee

You made the right decision.
