How would you say that the feel is different?
Is it just different vibes or something you can pinpoint?

So, how do you guys add your @berkeley.edu mail to your iOS device?
I’ve tried all this http://kb.wisc.edu/berkeley/page.php?id=23285 but my iPad still says the server calmail.berkeley.edu is not responding

@moriartee use the gmail app for iOS and connect your berkeley.edu email as one of the accounts there.

Transcripts are due by July 1st, right?

Is anyone else applying for the Miller Scholars Program?

@ocnative I am! Are you?

@oongaboonga Yeah, definitely!

@AnthroFlo

Yeah, it’s a completely different vibe. It feels like home here. When I was at UCLA it was like…it felt like I had to “be UCLA.” It felt like it I was given the privilege of being a Bruin and there was this expectation to fill this mold of being a UCLA student (friendly, outgoing, studious, awesome). That’s not to say that I didn’t like the people of UCLA; they’re my favorite thing about the campus. It was honestly hard not to get caught up in being a Bruin and having school pride when I visited. Yeah…the pride is just really big there…

Cal is really different from UCLA. It feels like everyone has no problem being themselves and the students don’t care so much about being a Golden Bear or a Cal student. (That’s not to say that they’re not proud to be here or the campus’ accomplishments and history.) The students seem to be a lot more honest, blunt/straight-forward, and are definitely more serious about academics. The culture around Berkeley is unique and special. It’s a lot more real than Westwood (which would have been nice to live around). The environment on and around campus gives you perspective on life that you just wouldn’t get if you were a student at UCLA.

I loved the buildings on both campuses, and I’m not sure which one I prefer. I love the nature, history, and collegeness of Cal. UCLA looks and feels like a"perfect" college campus with the uniform buildings and more convenient (?) layout.

Outside the vibe, I checked out my department and met the Student Services Director. We had an awesome conversation about the GRE/graduate school, research, professors that students seem to like, signing up for classes, and various other things. It was great since she was a Cal student on top of now working here. I also had a great experience checking out UCLA’s psych department. Both places are full of helpful and pleasant people.

(Keep in mind I’m here at Berkeley during Memorial Day weekend and after everyone just finished their Spring semester.)

@ocnative It seems like such an amazing opportunity. I’m just starting on my personal statement.

@oongaboonga I hope we both get it! Doesn’t seem like anyone else on this thread is applying ;))

I agree with @calbro’s description of UCLA. When I visited, I felt like it was too UCLA and somewhat too …forceful. And, for lack of a better word, “pretentious”
Note that my tour was on the first day of school for Spring and everyone was trying to recruit me to their clubs and invite me to some party so
Plus, I drive. I hate LA traffic. At least driving will be more manageable in NoCal.

Still haven’t decided. Was set on Berkeley then got unsure. I think May 31 is when I will decide.

@CSB111 Berkeley, Berkeley, Berkeley, Berkeley

@CSB111 Just a reminder: UCLA requires Fall transcripts by June 1. So if you decide to SIR to UCLA on May 31, you should start requesting your school to send transcripts now.

@calbro: Perfectly said.

hi guys, I still haven’t decided whether or not to go to berkeley. I really like the school and the environment, but, and i hate to ask this, is it really that hard to get As bc of curves and whatnot? Going to a reputable graduate school is rly important to me.

@randombookie

What’s your major, again?

@ocnative, psych!

@randombookie

I think Psych will be challenging at either Cal or UCLA. Don’t let the competitive environment of the school discourage you. Is that the only factor making you conflicted on which school to choose?
