@wrastler I’m no admissions expert, but I think you are most hurt by your standardized test scores. I think a 28 or higher on the ACT or a higher SAT score could really help your chances.

I’ve found that, usually, the sections with which you struggle the most are the ones which will improve most drastically with a change of strategy/more practice. For example, it’s easier to go from a 21 to a 25 than from a 27 to a 30. So, if one or two of the ACT sections is really dragging you down, then I would suggest taking it again.

Had it not been for the below-average ACT and SAT scores, you’d have a fair shot. You didn’t mention the difficulty of your curriculum, but a 3.7 is nevertheless not enough to make up for the scores. So, I’d suggest not getting your hopes up too high.

I have a very good understanding of business for a high schooler, I have my own small business.
[ *] Other Factors/questions:

also to add onto mine, I already applied EA and have a solid upward grade trend.

@prospy01, you’re reaching. It’s impressive you have a small business but without knowing the nature of it, it’s hard to say just how good it actually is. I mean to be honest, if it’s just simply something like a lawn mowing business for example, it would only be akin to something like starting a club and being president of it. Anyways, your GPA is weak, 3.5 something is below the IRQ of admitted students’ GPAs. 2060, Michigan doesn’t superscore, gets you into the lower IQR for admitted students in terms of SAT scores. Your ECs are decent but nothing special. Add to that the fact you’re OOS, your chances are not good. If you were an IS student, I would say one more good semester would probably get you in but you have a much more competitive applicant pool as an OOS applicant. Your ECs, essays and recs, even if all very strong, will probably not be enough to get you through.

Anthonyxy21- what do you think are my chances (see couple of posts above)

@chickenme, You’re right that your GPA is not the best but it’s not bad either. Your ACT is very good, your ECs are pretty strong and I can believe that you will have good recs. For the most part, everything you have besides GPA is better than the Michigan applicant average. In terms of your GPA, if you got that 3.7 taking one of the most difficult courseloads your school has to offer, I wouldn’t worry too much about the 3.7 because you will get something close to a 4.0 this semester. With everything else you have, you should be able to make up a slightly weak GPA, for an OOS applicant. But if that 3.7 comes from taking all easy classes, your chances would not be nearly as good. Based on what I see, I think your chances are pretty solid and you should be a match. I would be surprised if you are not admitted at some point. Good luck!
