***The official University of Michigan Chances Thread:***

@EMPire18‌ Thank you for your insight! Unfortunately, without my writing section my SAT is a 1260 not a 1310. This puts me below the 25% range. I realize my chance is slim but I know I would love it at UM. I recently emailed my recruiter to show my interest in the school but I have not heard back from them yet.

do you guys know if U of M places emphasis on the ACT or the SAT

and do you also know if U of M considers High school classes that were taken in 7th and 8th Grade such as Algebra 1 and 2 into their GPA calculation

[ *] College (LSA, engineering, etc.): LSA
[ *] SAT: 2050 (retaking)
[ *] SAT IIs (if sent):
[ *] ACT: 33 (took sophomore year)
[ *] UM unweighted GPA: ~3.75 wi freshman gpa, little higher without
[ *] Rank: 10-15%
[ *] Other stats: 4 on bio and apush, will have like 11 ap classes when i submit apps (probably the toughest course rigor possible)
[ *] Subjective (ECs, special circumstances, etc): school orchestra prez, student council, science olympiad, newspaper club, prolly concertmaster of a competitive youth orchestra (play wi big name artists like fall out boy, twentyonepilots etc), all state orchestra (top 5 chair), concertmaster all region, e-violin in a gigging band, nhs lol, french club lol, trying to found model UN team, about 200 hours from helping disabled children and volunteering at hospital, i have a ton of stuff from middle school when i was super asian like amc, math league, etc but probably doesn’t matter
[ *] Essays: eh, probably 8/10
[ *] Teacher Recs: 9/10
[ *] Counselor Rec: 7/10
[ *] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.):
[ *) Location/Person:
[ *] State or Country: ohio
[ *] School Type: medium public
[ *] Ethnicity: asian
[ *] Gender: male
[ *] major strength/weakness: violin is really all i do, my gpa sucks
[ *] Other Factors/questions: is ED a real viable option? i definitely need $ but michigan is definitely a top choice

@anxxghost, I believe that UM does not have a preference. Either SAT or ACT is fine. And lol, UM does not calculate your 7th and 8th grades into your GPA. However, I believe they count freshmen year.

@EMPire18‌ I meant course that were supposed to be taken in high school but are taken at middle school due to accelerated classes. They are factored into my regular GPA so I was wondering if U of M recalculates GPA without those classes.

[ *] Other Factors/questions: I emailed my state admissions counselor saying UM is still undoubtly my top choice and it would be a dream come true to attend.

What do you think my chances are? I would enroll in a heartbeat if accepted.

@anxxghost, No, they do not factor middle school courses like accelerated Algebra 2 and Geometry. If they did, everyone would get a huge GPA boost because those classes were easy. UM GPA includes your freshmen, sophomore, and junior grades. They may look at 1st semester senior grades and factor them into your UM GPA.

okay and sorry to bother you bro but is an A- still 4 point for u of m

@EMpire18

@anxxghost, I am not 100% sure, but I believe that is so. I looked at past UM forums and learned that admissions see an A- the same as an A+. Same goes with B’s, C’s…

White Female interested in Engineering. Currently interested in Chem Eng. or Material Science.

ACT 31

WGPA: 4.25
UWGPA: 3.55

Very Rigorous curriculum. Senior Year schedule: AP Lit., AP Calc BC, AP Chem, AP Psych, AP Econ

Out Of State

Would like to play Women’s Club Water Polo. (Recruited athlete for DIII swim and Varsity team captain.)

Is Michigan a realistic possibility, or out of reach? Does being a female with AP Calc BC and AP Chem help any?
