The Ohio 5 Consortium

Hey
I’ve been looking into colleges to get a feel for what I might like and I was intrigued by the Ohio 5 consortium.
I’m not really sure what the consortium entails or the benefits. Does anyone know? Any current or past Kenyon, Oberlin, Denison, Wooster, or OWU students have any idea?
Thanks :)

From a student perspective I think the major benefit is curriculum and library integration. The schools are too far away from each other to allow taking classes at different places.

I’ll admit the schools aren’t very close together, from what I’ve gathered Kenyon and Denison are the closest ones together and even they’re about 38 minutes apart. I just like knowing that the option to take a class at one of the other schools is open in the event that I’d want to and would commit to commuting. The rules of the consortium aren’t very clear and there wasn’t much I could find about it.

I think that the reason for the confusion is that the word “consortium” is used very loosely here. The Ohio Five, in other words, are not like the Claremont Colleges which have a ton of interaction and are very close in proximity.

From the students perspective, the Ohio Five probably does not offer much besides the library system.

This webpage pretty much covers the Ohio Five:

These schools are all in the same athletic conference and compete with one another athletically. These schools are all part of the OhioLink library system- but there are 90 schools in Ohio that are part of the OhioLink system. These schools are also all part of the GLCA (Great Lakes College Association) which includes other liberal arts schools in the region such as Earlham, Kalamazoo, and Allegheny. Other than these affiliations, there’s really no “consortium” to speak of. Oberlin and Kenyon are 2 hours apart, for example. I went to Oberlin College and now work for Oberlin college and I’ve never been to any of these other campuses, not even for an athletic event.
