On CC, I’m a sucker for any threads that have to do with cooking, eating, and buying. :)

Thought this might be a fun thread.

What’s the one thing lately (or maybe you’ve had the “itch” for years!) that you have mulled over and over in your head and are SO tempted or itching to purchase?

It might be something outrageous like a sports car. It might be more practical but not needed like an new laptop. It might be so simple, but so fulfilling like a double dip of gelato.

Try to focus on that ONE thing.

Ok, here’s mine. I CANNOT get my mind off getting a NOOK!

I’m a “reader” by nature. Children’s books, blogs, fiction, news, etc. I see people with them at the gym and I’m jealous. I wait in the pick-up line for my daughter at school and wish I could pull it out of my bag. I envision myself on the beach at our cottage with a slim reader instead of a stack of books.

I WISH I could have a 14 day trial! Is it really for me? Can I justify the expense? Can I truly download from the library (I won’t purchase most of my books) a good majority of what I want to read? If I did buy should I go basic or w/internet? This all has been in my mind for over a year now!

Well this was from a few years ago, but I decided about 5 years ago that I would like a nicer watch. One with little diamonds and maybe a pearl face. Not a Rolex, but something in the $300 - $600 range. At the mall, DD and I poured over the watches until I had finally picked out a couple of Citizens ECO Drive contenders.

I tried to save up for it by throwing all the change I found around the house into a box. But every time the kids needed money for something, I raided the change box, so I never seemed to make any headway saving. I visited the watches when we went to the jewelers or the mall.

After 2 years of trying, H asked D what I wanted for my birthday, she pointed out the watch, and he bought one for me. Fortunately, by that time I had found a jeweler who offered them at a substantial discount over the mall prices :).

In my Bookmarks, I have a Shop Til Ya Drop folder. In that folder, I have a Am I Going to Buy this or Not? folder. (Say what you will, I’m very organized. :)) At the top of my list is a Jonathan Adler Chinese Chippendale armchair. One day, {{{sigh}}} one day.

I know this isn’t really in keeping with the theme of the thread…but if you want to read at the beach - get the kindle, not the nook…kindle display works better in sunlight.

I’d like a replacement kitchen aid stand mixer (my seized about 3 years ago making candy fondant!)

A new and redesigned deck in the backyard. We could just get this one repaired, as I believe an opossum chewed out only one of the supports- but I would really like a new design with a water element and a built in barbecue.

I’ll second the Kindle recommendation. You can get a 30-day free trial from Amazon to make sure you like it. And there are so many free books available, you might not miss the ability to borrow from your library. (I have 167 books on my Kindle, but have spent less than $50 on books.)

I’ve been itching to buy a new sewing machine.

For me, it is new patio furniture. I have been wanting it since we moved two years ago. We have a 33x12 covered patio and a huge screened pool deck. We finally bought a seating group for our Christmas/anniversary present, but I still need a dining set, lounge chairs, ceiling fans and rug. I know if I don’t get this stuff before tuition bills start coming, I won’t get them for at least four years. I have a folder on my computer with my wish list, and I can see the whole project finished in my mind. Good thing, because that is probably as far as it is going to get for now.

Ipad. Don’t really know what I would use it to do but I like the idea of it. Might be fun on long plane trips. Probably buy one this month or whenever the new versions come out.

Yes, I’d like a cruise to maybe Alaska and/or parts of Europe. Have never been on a cruise but have heard mostly positives. Am thinking of doing this after H retires.

Nice story about the watch. I got a cheapo that is waterproof and LOOKS like it has diamonds and pearl face from Ross for $15; makes me less worried that it will be lost or stolen; I do tend to lose or break watches after a time. ;)
