Not to hijack this tread, but for the woman, which do you look forward to removing most in the evening, your bra or contacts?
If I know I am in for the night, both come off immediately, and the sweats/lounge clothes go on! I can not wait to get out of my public clothing. This last week with long holiday weekends off from work, I have been known to not get dressed all day if not leaving the house. Even the dogs know if I am in my sweats that means they don’t have to get in their crates
Sadly, since about age 40-45., my eyes have been too dry to wear contacts any more, after wearing them nearly all my waking hours since I was age 18. I take off my bra mostly at bedtime; when I have properly fitting bras, they are quite comfortable. Haven’t been able to tolerate contacts now for many years, sadly. I do prefer myself in contacts over without, but life goes on. When I’m home, I often go without glasses, since I don’t need them for using the computer or close work (do need them for driving and most other distance things).
Mostly, I’m pretty comfortable in my jeans and nice tshirts and can wear them until I change into my bedtime clothing. If I have to dress up for a meeting or conference (blazer, dress, etc.) I do tend to change out of that into leggings or more casual “hanging around the house” clothing.
My kids and I are PJ wearers. I wear flannel in the winter and cotton in the summer. They wear just bottoms, with plaint tshirts. My husband wears sweat pants around the house, but usually sleeps in a tshirt. When I’m hoping to make it to the gym I wear yoga pants in the morning.
DS often just put his backpack (and socks, etc.) on the carpet floor. This gets on my wife’s nerve because she thinks the cartpet is “dirty” (i.e., just vacuuming it would not make it clean.) She’s a clean freak, IMHO. Today DS knocked the lid of a jar off to the floor by accident, and she said it would take “lots of efforts” to clean and dry it. (And she would not let any other person to clean and dry it for her. So she is often very busy on too many relatively small things. Everybody has his/her “weakness.” (For me, what keep me awake at night is the potentially prohibitively high wedding cost and the complicated logistics and inevitable need for dealing with a lot of people here.)
(Sorry, I am the “master” of derailing a thread. But of course I am unable to contribute the discussion about bra. LOL.)
Personally, I’ve tried plenty- even professionally fitted at more than one place. They are just in no way comfortable for me. However, tight clothes in general are not comfy for me. I don’t like the feeling of tight clothes.
Since my breast reduction, I often wear a bra top instead of an underwire bra, and it is very comfortable.
I do own pjs, because we stay in European style lodges with shared bathrooms and sometimes I will even come to breakfast in my pjs.
Of course not all my pjs are suitable for the public.
I notice that people vacationing at a hotel (or “resort”) could wear very casually (e.g., pjs) everywhere including the brunch area, because they are on vacation. I may not be totally surprised if some people wear shorts and slippers to get on a plane these days. However, few people would wear pjs to a nearby fastfood or grocery store because they are not on vacation. Where is Dear Abby here who can tell us what is the proper socially acceptable etiquette in what situation?
Yes, I have seen a lot of folks flying in sun dresses, slippers and shorts. Personally, I find it can get quite chilly in such attire and prefer to wear at least jeans or jeggings and some layers (which I do add and/or remove, depending on my internal temperature). I hate landing and freezing as well, especially when the temperature is MUCH different–good way for me to get sick!
I’m a big pj wearer. I like Soma cool nights pj’s. I have pj’s, robes and slippers lol!
When I travel I wear yoga pants and sweatshirts. My mil even packs her robe when she travels!
I mean I wear yoga pants when I’m a guest in someone’s house. On a plane I wear something nicer, usually. I joke that my kids dress like they’ve been on a 3 day bender on the plane. They did look better this year, maybe they are growing up
I have one pair of jams. They are very soft fleece and I wear them all winter around the house, even during the day if I am not going out at all. I don’t sleep in them, though. I sleep in a very worn t-shirt. I also have several pairs of yoga pants which I wear around the house when it’s not too cold. I wear those out, too.
I have a very fluffy fleece robe which wear when I get out of the shower. And I just bought pair of fleece slippers as my floors are cold in the winter and socks aren’t enough to keep my feet warm.
Hate nightgowns and the only ones I own are very fancy ones which were engagement presents and have not been worn since I got them 26 years ago.
I am all about the flannel in the cool / cold months. I got a " pair " a couple of months ago which consists of a night shirt over pants. I can’t stand air getting on my back from the shift of the tops bunching up when I sleep. I am thinking about buying myself another one from the Garnet Hill website since they are marked down now.
My husband got me a new pair of slippers too from LL Bean. I have had their wicked good slippers for a long time and he got me some more.
I like pj’s but have a terrible time finding ones that do not make me too warm. I prefer shortie sets with no sleeves in woven (not knit) cotton/blends. When I find something that works I buy multiple pairs.
No flannel for me, not even in the winter.
Big t-shirts for me, with loose pj shorts. I’m in the south, where robes and flannels not necessary. When it is chilly, I have some old flannel bottoms and sweatshirts.
When the kiddo was around, and often had friends over, I dressed nicer at home. Always loose pants, and somewhat matching in color tops.
As is tradition in my family, and it seems as in many others, I bought son and girlfriend pjs at the gap this year. His were a blue flannel plaid bottom and navy top, hers a purple/blue plaid bottom, purple top. Coordinated but not a set. I went back after Xmas to buy for me, but they were totally sold out!
I have not received any feedback if they liked their pjs, or any of their gifts, but those pjs are my idea of dressing well at home.
"could also not understand why he needs to roll up the long sleeves (so that the forearms are not covered.) What’s the point here?! Why not just wear a short sleeved shirt then?! "
If you are referring to button-down types of shirts, there is a school of thought that says that button-down short sleeves are a very old-man look and that it’s better looking to roll up the sleeves of a long-sleeved button down. I don’t know that I necessarily agree, but it’s out there.
Yeah. The kinds of people I’m thinking of who would adhere to the “roll up a long sleeve button down” ethos would not be caught dead in Tommy Bahama! It is funny how the ads change so quickly based on what we discuss!
