The Pajama Game

Did anyone else wear those Lanz nightgowns in the mid 1980s? In retrospect, what an unsexy look for when I was early twenties and cute

Mcat…tight and snug clothing are what the 20 something crowd wears. They don’t wear baggy clothes. Your son is fine, and he is a young adult.

Back to PJs, I’m sitting here in mine, and I’m so comfy. And my robe too.

Re: the warm robe. We live in New Engliand…and we keep our thermostat anywhere from 65-68 during the day…but never higher. Having a nice cozy and warm robe makes all the difference. In fact, sometimes I throw it on over my clothes if I’m chilly. Saves us hundreds on heating oil.

I do not own a pair of slippers - no one in our family does. I go barefoot every chance I get and love the feeling of no shoes. I always think of the elderly when I think of slippers.

HImom…pajama gram makes 100% cotton. So does Life is Good.

PG…I thpught Lanz had gone out of business! But when shopping for my new robe last week…there were stores that had whole racks of Lanz nightgowns. I saved my money for months to buy one. I think I was the only girl on my floor who didn’t just come to college with at least one Lanz. They were a little more expensive than the average nightgown…back in the day.

GMT you probably don’t want to know…

Here we are in transition. Night wear is predicated by DW hot flash status. For most of the last year asbestos would have been appropriate. In those moments scrubs were fine sleepwear. Now the personal summers are sputtering and I may need a coat and stocking cap.

At least bedtime is never boring

Yeah - I googled and it seems that Lanz went from more upscale to more mass market! I haven’t seen it in years though - but I haven’t really looked.

I do wear “traditional” two-piece pajamas but they are kind of hard to buy / find the right ones. They are either too skimpy / sexy to be appropriate for everyday (especially when the kids are home) or the patterns are just too cutesy and twee. I have some from a brand called BedHead that I like, but not sure where I got them, and frankly I think they are more expensive than they should be.

I buy a lot of gowns from eileen west and they have lanz. Lanz is too young for me at this point in my life, but they used to be a mainstay. I have given them to daughter-in-law, and also given her the Bed Head pajamas. You can find Bed Head sometimes at TJ Max, if you have enough time in your life to rummage through the lingerie section there on a regular basis. They still aren’t inexpensive.

Traditional PJs get harder to find and so do gowns and robes of natural fibers. imho I’ve been looking for a tea length silk travel robe for more than a year. 100% silk. I like my robes to breathe and find silk to be both warm and cool enough for a hotel room. I’m not wearing robes for modesty. I am always cold. For summer I have a long sleeved seersucker robe. And a very worn out silk one. : ( And a beautiful Laura Ashley floral my mother gave me when I was pregnant. And some eileen wests that match gowns. and so on…

Yeah. I tend to go to Nordstrom to buy that kind of thing, and really, I don’t get why they think grown women want some of these cutesy patterns. I have had some Natori pieces in the past that were really pretty as well.

I do have to agree, this is not an easy category to shop for, and it should be!

Half the time I fall asleep in my clothes!

Well, this will probably generate “ewwwws,” but on days when my husband is on call at the hospital and I’m working out in the morning, I’ll put on my workout clothes, throw a sweatshirt / sweatpants on top, fall asleep in that and then in the morning just jump up, brush my teeth and go. I do the same when I travel for business, just sleep in the clothes I’ll work out in the next morning.

Makes sense to me!

You were the first to say it and I was going to just keep quiet, but since you broke the ice…yes, I, as well as my partner, sleep in our birthday suits. Has been this way for years and years.

LOL, I misread this at first and thought it said that on business trips you sleep in the clothes you’ll WORK in the next day! I was going to ask, “But don’t your suits get wrinkled?”

Due to my, er, current state of life, my internal thermostat is constantly in flux. So, most nights it is just a night shirt and a pile of blankets that gets layered/discarded as needed. Costco’s velvety on one side and sheep fur (ish) on the other blanket is always at the ready when lounging and watching tv.

Find of the year for my menopausal self was the LL Bean furry flip flops. The best of both worlds

I wear a lightweight flannel nightshirt (sock monkey print) over lightweight flannel or pajamagram knit pajama pants in winter, and boxers and a soft t-shirt (not huge) in summer. I like the print flannel pajamas, too. I consider the patterns “whimsical” as opposed to “cutesy”! H wears some sort of knit boxer bottoms and a tshirt.

I lounge around in Lulu workout pants (looser fit- not tights) and sweatshirts or my new one-piece Yetti sweatshirt/pants combo from Oiselle which my daughter says makes me look like a Teletubby.

I was staying out of it too as another “birthday suit” sleeper. I got into the habit with my ex and found trying to return to PJ’s so constricting! I do love the way a nightgown looks but they are even worse-wrapped all around you like you’re a burrito! So I stick with the nekkid thing as does H. Works for us. For lounging we’re both sweats people. He likes three-quarter sleeve “baseball” shirts and I buy cute, soft cotton ones and for bottoms we just wear regular sweatpants.

Whenever I see a cotton Hanro nightshirt on sale, I grab one. I’ve never owned a “real” PJ set. The adults in our house like to wear fleece robes, because one of the kitties loves to lounge on fleecy laps and chests (that’s the tortie in my avatar Im talking about). I have fleece pants and H&M waffle tees that I wear if I’m doing any housework where wearing a robe would be hazardous (like climbing on a ladder to dust off the big chandelier). When we actually have summer, I wear a sundress, and Mr wears pull on sweatshorts and a tee.

Re: breakfast in HI. We go to breakfast early, right after our workouts. Lots of people wear their gym clothes or some sort of casual attire, but I have yet to see pajamas or even pajama pants! Maybe those folks roll out of the bed later… Right now I’m lounging on the lanai in my Tommy Bahama sundress. Comfy yet a notch above beachwear.

I wear nightgowns not PJs. I get too hot at night to wear PJs in bed. I have probably a dozen nightgowns and three or four robes. My H does wear PJs and occasionally uses his robe. All 5 of my Ds wear PJs, their favorites are BedHead and they get a new pair every year on Christmas Eve. SOMA also has very nice PJs.

I wear silky pajama pants year round but don’t wear the tops which come with them. I’m always getting hot, so I wear tank tops with the pj bottoms. Sweats are too heavy, as are my comfy Nike work out pants. I can only wear the light weight silky pj bottoms or I get too hot.

Menopause, yuck…:frowning:

I take off my shoes as soon as I get home. Bare feet in the summer, socks in the winter, but shoes come off and stay off.
