I wore Lanz nightgowns for many years. D & I even had matching nightgowns. I no longer wear them, but the old ones sure make good dust rags. I’m now a PJ person. We keep our house on the cold side and I love my Garnet Hill flannel PJs-sometimes with a college sweatshirt over it. H has never owned PJs or a robe (neither has S). They (plus D) wear old sweats, Target flannel pants, college shorts, and any old t shirt.
I splurged on the Garnet Hill nightshirt today ! I can’t wait to get it
There is a brand of Pjs called Munki Munki that I like. I get them at Nordstrom. Sometimes they are too cutesy, but I like some of them. They are very comfy. I got my aunt some with sock monkeys on them, and she LOVED them.
Have both nightgowns and many sets of pajamas. I love wearing them as soon as I get home and take off the dressy clothes. If it is chilly I will add a robe and slippers…but to sleep in…it all comes off…I hate getting tangled in jammies at night.
DH sleeps nekkid and always has. As for me – I have waffle knit pjs that I’ve inherited from friends, and I also have two sets of flannel pajamas that I got at BJ’s. DH calls them my “BJ’s PJs,” which I thought was a riot. :)) I also sleep in short nightgowns in the summer. Can’t stand to sleep naked. I feel naked when I do.
Life is Good has some nice, simple PJs. I just got a pair with a plaid pajama pant and a solid short sleeve, v neck tee shirt. I love it.

Lands End has some nice cotton PJs also…solid colors or very simple prints.

Well, this will probably generate "ewwwws," but on days when my husband is on call at the hospital and I'm working out in the morning, I'll put on my workout clothes, throw a sweatshirt / sweatpants on top, fall asleep in that and then in the morning just jump up, brush my teeth and go. I do the same when I travel for business, just sleep in the clothes I'll work out in the next morning.

@Pizzagirl
I have totally done that! lol
I’ll even do that when I have to drive a long distance somewhere early in the am…I’ll shower, put on clean sweatshirt/tshirt/sweatpants, go to sleep, wake up early, brush teeth, and drive to the destination, then shower/change and go do whatever I was going to do.
When my kids were little, I used to do stuff like this all the time when we needed to leave really early in the morning for something…like a long-drive trip to a vaca destination. I’d bathe them, put them in “sleep clothes” that could be real clothes, put them to bed…then wake them up…and put them into the car.
I could not stand to sleep in a running bra, so that wouldn’t work for me at all.
I had some of those Lanz flannel nightgowns in the 1970’s & early '80’s. I loved them even though they weren’t that great for sleeping. ( they would get twisted & strangle me) I would sit on the heat vent in my room before school to eat my oatmeal with them pulled over my knees. Really nice thick flannel though.
For a while we would get coordinating pjs from Hanna Anderson, but just when the girls were much younger.
I found a couple cotton lawn sundresses at JCrew marked way down. They make great nightgowns for summer, & if they don’t exactly fit, it doesn’t matter.
I try & look decent when I go to bed, I don’t know why since H wears his sweats and a faded Sonics tee shirt.
It scared the heck out of me when the fire alarm went off while we were on vacation last week.
Not only wasn’t I completely covered, but my boots were on the sun porch, and I didn’t want to go out in the snow barefoot!
( it was a false alarm)
Oh, how I mourn wearing those dowdy Laura Ashley cord dresses when I was in my early 20’s.
I should have been wearing mini dresses and crop tops.
Maybe even with a belly ring!
I don’t think I’d like to sleep in a running bra…too tight. But, I can sleep in a Genie bra or an Ahh bra. Actually, I like wearing either a Genie or Ahh bra to bed. I’m hoping that I’m slowing down the sag factor.
Munki Munki is what my nightshirt is.
I used to order is all Hanna Anderson pjs, too. I loved that Hanna stuff. I also went through a stage with those frumpy Laura Ashkey dresses.
I was never a pj person until recently. Now I love Soma “cool nights” pjs and also their lounge clothes for earlier evening hours. And their soft sundresses with built-in bras for summer evenings.
Just a bit of information–wear a wicking tank under whatever you wear and you will not need, or only one time, need to change your bed clothes… ~:>
I like Eberjey in general. Reasonably priced and very good quality. This is one of the most comfortable nightgowns you will ever own. I have it in black and a pebble color:
This also comes in a shorty and cami set which is really cute and comfortable as well.
For something “special” I like La Perla.
Nightgowns, not pj’s for me. Tall/long torso people have trouble finding tops that will still cover the entire torso when lying down- nothing like a cold spot to annoy, especially if the covers slip off. Short nightgowns most of the time (now in FL) but “long” ones when a cold wave means the house temp is lower. Long for a tall person means partway down the arms and calves at best, sigh. Too hard to find long pj’s- gave up years ago. Somehow they assume larger sizes are only for short, fat people. I like not having pants at my waist for sleeping. Other sleepwear objections- scratchy lace, seams on upper back, snug long sleeve cuffs that don’t go up the arm with changing position, elasticized cuffs- get the trend about not feeling things here. Sensitive/delicate skin (not delicate person, though).
Robes- great to cover up nightgown when going to the mailbox or when adding to trash/recycling at the curb. Answering the door- just a nightgown - no way.
I and several ladies I know have not worn bras at home for decades (also took off wedding ring since dislike the feel, now that I should have the ring resized I don’t wear it- I know I’m married and Indian H only wore his ring a few weeks decades ago- got my ears pierced to be able to wear earrings without lobes being pinched). Need to put one on when company comes… No matter how “good” the fit it is still another piece of clothing. I can’t see how shoulder straps et al can be loose and still do what a bra is supposed to do. btw- always was large back, small breasts and never could find proper sizes. Somehow 38A or 42B is not supposed to exist. I remember as a teen when a salesclerk questioned my asking for a 38AA- “only preteens wear those” or some such comment. Well, having the bra cup material form folds means they’re too big, right? Bra extenders place the shoulder straps lateral and they tend to slip off shoulders more. Why can’t they realize that tall women or overweight women do not always have matching breast tissue to fill a cup size??? Plus - NO to wires.
Hard to find nice winter robes that are soft, light and zip. I do not like robes that tie as they fall open when you lounge in a chair/recliner/couch. Even up north I found some fleece robes too warm.
Slippers are for cold winter days and cold floors. NOT old ladyish. Looser than socks (and less slippery).
Fun thread. Must be nice to have a body that fits in the average range- so much easier to buy clothes. “one size fits all” clothing- ha!
Wis, you should check out HerRoom. They carry sizes not commonly found in regular stores.
For soft, comfy nighties and undies check out Calida (a sales person at Charmelle recommended their bras to me and I got instantly sold):
Wis, don’t buy bras in dept stores. They don’t know what they are doing. Go to a specialized bra store and get fitted. The place I go - actually tailors bras, like how you’d tailor pants. Makes perfect sense. The woman I go to takes one look at you and puts you into a bra size you never thought you were and it’s like magic. I’d rather spend the money on 3 good, tailored bras versus have a wardrobe of 10 “eh” ones.
Wis…I think you would like my new Uggs robe…even though it ties!
I commonly sleep in a giant tshirt or flannel nightshirt. Cant see spending $$ on pjs.
“The woman I go to takes one look at you and puts you into a bra size you never thought you were and it’s like magic.”
I second Pizzagirl’s advice. I ended up with a band 2 inches smaller and cup size 2 letters bigger! Who would have thought! I stick to the same Euro brand known for its consistent sizing - I have never heard of it prior to my visit to the bra boutique. I buy some of my undies at the boutique, and what they don’t carry comes from HerRoom, which is run by a bra specialist. The bras are super comfy, and that’s why I don’t rush home to yank off my bras. Still, will never be able to sleep in a running bra!
