Ben gets around. He’s monitoring my credit score for me, too.
Apparently I’m a nobody to Ben - just checked - nothing. Just a spam box filled with Bon Ton emails. Perhaps having a credit score of 350 helps?
(Just kidding about the credit score - saw a meme suggesting doing it would help keep identity thieves away and thought it was cute, so it came to mind.)
Not a random question, but a PSA- If you use stamps and need any, the price of a first class stamp is going up by 5 cents Jan 27. Biggest jump in history.
Buy Forever Stamps before that.
Seems odd to be talking stamps. But based on a thread about happy things to do in 2019, I’m writing some real letters this year.
Follow up to earlier question about what to be called as a grandma… She now says “nana” when she points to the ipad on facetime. Problem solved :x
New random question: We are taking a 12 day overseas trip and if at all possible,I’d love to be able to avoid checking luggage. We have in the past used extra large ziplock bags and sat on them to make a vacuum seal, but the bags dont always hold. Does anyone have a compression travel cube set they love (that isn’t too heavy) or other suggestion for how to travel with carryon only (I tend to overpack!!) I will check the dimension limits of Al Italia, but should be the same as Delta (those are our carriers). Someone posted something recently on facebook about packing light for along trip but I cant find it. Help please.
^ I was just looking at packing cubes last night for a 7 day trip. No idea what I need or want yet.
The only suggestion I have is to not overpack! DH and I did a week in Europe with just one carry-on each. No one else knows that you’ve worn something four times already.
I did 10 days easily with my 13x20. If I needed some fancy wear, I’d manage with the 14x24. Lol, I refuse to travel heavy. It’s not so much about rewearing as that I’ve collected super thin sweaters and silky blouses that weigh nothing and pack small.
Not sure what packing cubes are, but if you mean vacuum bags, I prefer the sort where you use the vacuum cleaner to get the air out, not just roll it up. Frankly, ime, paying more is worth it. (I use them to store old comforters, etc.)
We will be with a tour group. It will be obvious when I wear the same things over and over. Not that they will care. It will be warm so will probably have to change tops Or dresses daily.
Ime, people don’t notice as much as we think they do. My travel buddy likes a particular color of tops and even eith me being the sort who catches details, I can’t tell which is which. (I guess I don’t really look.) Besides that, so many styles are the same anyway. Who notices if today’s white shirt is that different than yesterday’s. As long as you look good…
I often take some nice silk scarves to shift up the look.
Sounds like a fun trip, some place warm.
https://adventureswithsarah.net will give plenty of packing ideas. We did 6 weeks in Europe last summer and while I packed much lighter than usual, it was still too much or some was not quite right.
Eagle Creek has nice compression travel cubes
I use packing cubes from EBags. I have several variations of them. My H uses compression sacks that he uses for backpacking.
I’ve never just traveled with a carry on but I hope one day I’ll bite the bullet and try it.
Eagle Creek is what I have. We have some other ones, but they are heavier/not as useful.
We were with a tour for 12 days. I had just my carry on. The other women had many suitcases and outfits.
I had different length black pants, black tanks and black tees, and 5 thin shirts of different colors. All thin silky material.
I did feel a bit underdressed at times but in the end I did not struggle with luggage as I saw them doing.
I also wash every few days and with the thin/wicking materials they dried in hours.
Funny I forgot to check back here before I ordered my eBags order. I had a $10 coupon so I ended up buying two different sets of compression cubes- one set is Eagle Creek and the other is Louis N Clark. I had some two-sided cubes in my cart but decided I would probably prefer to have the flexibility of separate cubes. I also had the eBags brand in my cart but took them out because I found some freebies that I had gotten from AARP a few years ago. They’re not exactly high-quality but they might do the trick as well.I plan to try them out on an upcoming long weekend trip in two weeks and see how they help. Thanks and keep the tips coming as I can always try something else. Thanks.
Report back! I need some of those too.
W9ll do-- but ironically someone just started a thread yesterday entitled “help me pack” that is discussing this too!
Would you tip your local family business hardwood floor installer if they did a great job on a difficult project no one else would take on? If so, how much? Their charges are resonable.
If giving money is awkward I would give a gift certificate for the tip amount.
This is what we did with our builder. And I would gift a good review to yelp, BBB, and on their business website.
And get a nice bottle of wine for yourself—you lived through it.
