A quick Google search turned up several repair places who claim the self-clean cycle is the #1 cause of service calls on an oven.
If you fry the electronics or damage the door locking mechanism you are looking at a major repair expense. And it can shorten the lifespan of your appliance.
My upper oven of a double wall oven had the self cleaning program and I used it 1 time - it destroyed the oven! I had a service guy come out for repair and he said never use the self cleaning program on wall ovens as the the high heat (500 degrees I think) melts the circuit board / components above the oven. He had to switch out all the electronics which ended up costing as much as a new oven. It broke again later by not turning off and a constant burnign heating element. Got a new oven that was steam cleaning but I read it really doesn’t do much so I’ve never used it either. Just clean it after use. They were GE ovens.
Perhaps there is a general shopping thread but I can’t find it and I need help in finding area rugs. Where do you buy your rugs that aren’t washable or thin as a piece of paper or shag or just look like they came off a printing press? Where have all the high quality, thick pile, wool rugs gone? I am having a heck of a time finding anything of quality - so, can help me find a place to shop for area rugs? Online or in person store, either is fine.
Thank you - I’ve been to Wayfair and Amazon. Haven’t check Home Goods an not sure who Revival is but will check. I’ve check Rugs USA, Rugs Online, Discount Rugs, Home Depot, Lowes. Everybody seems to sell the same paper thin rugs or washable rugs which are even thinner. And I do not want shag…ughhhh. Thank you for the lead…I will check out the last two. BTW, I already have thin rugs but am giving them to my youngest who is moving into a new apartment and thought I could now buy myself some higher quality ones. Of course now with possible tariffs, I may be bare floored for a while!
I have our carpet guy cut/bind carpet to the exact measurements I need. This has been helpful in my living room, dining room and family room so I get the furniture placement I want. For example I want a rug to fit under my dining table and allow the chairs to be pulled out while still on the rug. I found it a challenge to use pre cut rugs in these areas.
I have a Wayfair rug with a thick pad in one of the bedrooms.
When I moved from house to condo I selected area rugs from Crate and Barrel - one a variegated solid, the other a print.
They are still in great condition after 10 years.
Yes, my dining room rug is 10 x 14 and does allow the chairs to remain on the carpet. This one is going in my sons living area but will probably go wall to wall, will protect the hardwood in his rental.
I currently have Windows 10 on my PC and they’re encouraging me to install Windows 11 instead. Windows 10 won’t be supported after this coming October, so I know I have to do it sometime. Is 11 very different than 10? Will I run into problems as I start to use it??
I have been putting it off. I tried 11 & rolled back to 10 because it was glitchy. H ended up having to take his computer to a repair shop after installing 11 - it messed with his graphics, among other things. In the end, he also rolled back to 10. I don’t want to upgrade, but I also don’t want an unsupported computer.
Keep in mind I didn’t have to INSTALL mine - I wasn’t upgrading from 10 to 11. It was a brand new laptop that had 11 installed on it.
I just say that knowing that some of the hassles come in the installation!
This is a good time to call in a neighbor or relative or hire someone to give you a hand and maybe do it seamlessly for you. I do know what it feels like to avoid doing an upgrade for fear of what goes wrong - so you just keep putting it off which doesn’t feel good either!
