The Real "Say Yes to the Dress" returns Friday

Anyone else find it ironic that a show featuring Kleinfeld’s and a significant number of Jewish brides & weddings, is premiering on Erev Yom Kippur? I won’t be watching this Friday, but will after that!

This! At least I can watch it On Demand later in the weekend (along with Fringe, which is now on Friday nights too).

Or you can watch it next week when the re-run is shown before the new episode.

SYTTD is my Friday night guilty pleasure. Can’t wait to settle in tomorrow night with my glass of pinot grigio. My H will actually glance over from his laptop and take in parts of the show. I have a niece getting married next year so weddings are a big topic of family conversation. I told my 80-something parents about the show and now they’re hooked. I can’t wait until they see the NY version. We’re from the NY area and my SIL actually bought her wedding dress at Kleinfelds years ago.

My sister is a wedding consultant in NYC/Westchester and I just saw the pictures yesterday she took at the bridal accessory spring show. Hats are back surprise surprise, birdcage veils and gloves.

I am so excited to have the Kleinfeld group back on SYTTD, but I will have to admit that I have, as a few others have said, warmed up to the group in Atlanta. I really couldn’t stand them last year. I’m not sure what happened. Did they tone it down or did I get used to them? I don’t know. Anyway, I’m looking forward to tomorrow night. Can’t wait to see what Kelly Ripa’s experience is like!

The only thing that would have been more enjoyable than reading these posts would have been reading them with a Cosmopolitan! It is so good to know that other CC’s who I have have learned from and enjoyed the past 4 years also share the same guilty pleasures! I agree on the plus -size show-a total non-starter, IMO. Still do not like the Atlanta show because I believe it presents such a skewed picture of southern women-remember their first episode where the mom kept saying, “Sissssssy’s not gonna like it” I could have screamed!

I cannot wait to see if Kate’s dress has had an impact-I thought maybe Ivanka Trumps dress might have had some impact on bridal design- I am betting Kate’s will. Agree with a PP-enough back fat and the proverbial uniboob!

first episode, first fairy hooker dress! The bride even said “I look like a fairy.” Actually, she looked like a hooker.

Now zoosermom, you don’t think that is a dress your niece would wear? ;)

I just can believe people have no shame spending that kind of money on a dress.

I’ll let you know.

I work in an industry where a lot of people go to important social events and wear multi-thousand dollar dresses regularly (not me!), so I don’t find the amount of money out of line for New York, but it bothers me when brides and their families/friends have to pool pennies to pay for dresses. In those situations, they really can’t afford the dress and one has to wonder what is being sacrificed.

I don’t know what kind of shame anyone needs to have spending whatever he can afford. If you can’t afford it, you should be ashamed of being stupid enough to spend it.

I’ve watched this show with MadameX several times.

Tonight I felt that it was shilling for Kleinfelds. Still enjoyable, but they take pains to point out how long it takes to get the dress, how unhappy they are with input from anyone that the bride brings, how displeased they are that you “might have seen a dress someplace else” etc, etc, etc,. Its a tough business, and you only get one purchase per person per lifetime, (usually). But please be a little bit more subtle.

Anyone notice the girl in the opening credits who twirls around in different gowns? I think she looks like the obnoxious redhead from last season who flew in on Daddy’s private jet and made the store stay open late while she tried on every gown they had!

That bride who bought the 2 dresses and ended up with a $50,000 tab that her fiance had to pay for…are there really such people on this Earth? Because I thought that Saturday Night Live made up those characters.

Although I am totally hooked on the show, I typically don’t love the dresses. But last night, the one that the bride who wanted the blush colored dress bought …I loved loved loved!

^ Oh that would be priceless, I will have to pay attn next week. Loved that they are back in NYC, never quite got used to “jacked up” as a sales tactic. I want to know, what does that guy (Sonny? I think?) do that he can pay for princess’ 50K fairy-hooker wear? Both of them looked, well, not rich. That one dress she got actually looked dirty, whatever the color was called, it was dingy. I thought Kelly did a good job of actually seeming to be a rookie consultant - not just some celebrity spot. I loved how she just had all the dresses dumped on the chairs afterwards, that was funny. Saw the previews about Regis on Cake Boss and it seems like TLC is just pulling every trick to keep ratings going. Next thing will be a Sister Wives renewal of vows dress-selection right? Would be worth watching if they sent them to Atlanta and that guy could be called a “rooster in the hen house.”

Yes!!! It’s got to happen!!!

I am so glad it’s back in NY! I don’t mind people paying whatever for dresses they can afford, although I usually find bridal party dresses so overpriced that the quality is often poor regardless of the price. It’s when they break the bank or have a “so what if we’ll be broke, I deserve it” attitude that bothers me. Oh well, not my life.

Last year we had a girl from the high school do her senior internship at Kleinfelds, everyone was so jealous. She loved working at the store and the show.

Just checking in our thread-what a hoot if the “Sister Wives” showed up a Lori’s Salon in Sandy Springs ( aka Atlanta). There are a lot of Mormon people in this part of Atlanta ( an LDS Temple is about 3 miles from Lori’s), but the LDS members do not embrace 'Sister Wives". I can just imagine Monty “jacking up” the 4 wives.

I was thinking the same thing about the bride with the 2 dresses. What in the world is that about - I know brides often have 2 dresses, but she was a…Can’t wait for this Friday. BTW, I thought TLC was owned by NBC-so I was surprised with Regis and Kelly in a TLC show, for some reason.

Purposely missed the premier, as I am not a Kelly fan. But I have caught a couple of reruns of an episode which features one bride, start to finish, from choosing her dress to the wedding. She is a big obnoxious girl with divorced parents who is a spoiled brat. Really feel sorry for her husband, as she gets everything SHE wants. She even went back and bought a ring herself that she wanted and he couldn’t afford. When they got to the wedding, I kept yelling at the TV to the groom, saying, RUN! Gosh, I feel bad for that guy. Can only imagine how little his self esteem will become over the time he is married to her. Hope he comes to his senses and gets out as soon as he can!

A friend’s daughter was the #1 most outrageous request bride tonight. She is a brilliant, talented, and quirky young woman. I was going with the quirkiness until she put on the red veil.

At least her future MIL liked it!
