The Road to War: USA versus Iran?

Oh, I think the democratic republic would launch weapons at U.S. installations in Iraq - much closer, much more difficult to miss, or much more poorly defended.

Ain’t going to happen, though. Once the oil money is made, things will cool down (just like in North Korea.)

i say we go in there and kick their asses as well

I haven’t read through all the posts, but I have strong feelings on Iran. Iran is a fierce military force. All men in Iran have to serve in the military, all men. so they have a completely trained fighting force. We don’t. and Iran is an advanced country, much more than we think they are. This would in no way be like Iraq or Afghanistan, which unless I am reading wrong we haven’t won those wars either. Invading Iran would be world war 3, not vietnam. And at present, I don’t think we would win. Anybody want to learn Persian???

Many countries have mandatory military service. Just to name a few: Austria, Belarus, Bermuda, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China (PRC), Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Eritrea, Finland, Germany, Greece,** Iran, Israel,** South Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan (ROC), Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela.

Personally, I don’t see mandatory military service as being an automatic bonus. Sure, the size of the army may be bigger then those without conscription, but if their weapons are not as powerful, the quality will outweigh quantity. For example, Mexico has mandatory military service. However, I think we can all agree that the United States military (which does not usually require mandatory service unless the draft is reinstated) is probably much more powerful than Mexico’s military. Also, you have to take into account that some of those men (and women) probably do not want to be there serving their country.

Personally, I am much more worried about Iran’s nuclear weapons (if they do manage to produce them) than the size of their military.

“We would have no problem defeating the Iranian military. The liberal news media wants you to have the idea that Iran is militarily superior. The American military is by far the most powerful in the world and will not have a problem.”
“If I am drafted into the military, I will have no hesitation. I am proud to be an American and at least I know I am free.”

Dude, if that was the case wouldnt you (or we - i am australian) already have won in iraq? Statements like that really scare me. War is rarely easy.

As for freedom, I wont get into a philosophical debate with you on here… but freedom is not always as strait forward as we like to believe. Also wouldnt drafting mean that you are not free? ok i said i would not get into this debate didnt I heh.

(sorry but how do i do the quote thing … other forums have buttons but i cant see them here)

{quote} {/quote}

replace { and } with [ and ]

“War is rarely easy.”

I never said war is easy. I am tired of hearing people say," DUDZ, like Iran is gonna like kick our rears, we might as well like surrender now dudz." “All hail the mighty Iranian military.”

Militarily, we are far superior. We shalt crush them.

And what do you mean the war is not won? Saddam’s tyrannical regime is now over and his military defeated. Now, we have to deal with terrorism in the area. Its a matter of bringing stability to the area, not fighting a military.

I wish we had the Strategic Defense Initiative right about now. “sigh”

Eh? Old news. Oil prices hit their all-time high, the Texas and Saudi oil men sold their futures, and now it’s time to take some profits.

So it will be on the backburner for several weeks until prices fall enough for a new round of money to be made.

(Any wonder why Iran wants nuclear power? ;))

“And what do you mean the war is not won? Saddam’s tyrannical regime is now over and his military defeated. Now, we have to deal with terrorism in the area. Its a matter of bringing stability to the area, not fighting a military.”

So the bombs are being set off and guns are being fired by an insurgency (or as you call them, terrorists) rather than an “official” army. It’s still a military entity, even if it is a guerilla one, and the American and coalition soldiers and Marines are just as dead and wounded. It looks like a war to me.

I must be watching much different news broadcasts than others, because we are still fighting wars and being killed and maintaining a military force in areas. I do not like the cavalier approach to war, it’s what has gotten us into this mess through Pres. Bush, who by the way has not sent his children or nephews to war. We do not have much of an army left to fight Iran, or the money to do it. These poor guys in Iraq don’t even have the proper weapons, gear, armor. They are being held in Iraq because there is nobody to take their place, they want to come home, and their tours of duty have long been over. but there they are. who exactly is going to be fighting this war with Iran and with what? any thoughts of war with Iran, and my sons are on a plane to far off lands of my ancestors; sweden, ireland, whereever they will fit in perfectly and not be seen in the US again. Oh, I can hear it already, I am not a patriot. I just don’t blindly follow some goof in the white house who has no personal stake in what he is forcing others to do, with no education to understand who he is going up against. Iran is a mighty military force, and we have been in war. They have not. We are tired and used up. They are fresh. when I see his daughters in Iraq, I might entertain a tiny thought of my children going. otherwise, plane fare instead of college tuition. hey, see how that fits into this forum???

Instead of fighting Iran, we need to be engaging in civil war to get rid of the ■■■■■■■ and deport them back to Africa.

USA may be superior to Iran militarilly, but we are far inferior to them culturally and in terms of moral values. Blame the atheists.

this is a forum where people can express intelligent appropriate comments and opinions. we may not all agree, but klanboi, you need to go. I don’t blame athiests, Iranians, black people, white people or purple people. I blame people like you who have no tolerance for anybody who they perceive as different. gosh, the cause of every war ever fought?? go back from whence ye came, because you are not welcome here amongst civilized intelligent people.

Given thier name ‘klanboi’ and number of posts i would say this person is just a ■■■■■ trying to mess with us. It is sad to think that there are actually people out there who think like that though.

Didnt this war originally set out to get Osama? I have not heard about him lately… but hey its ok because we got Saddam right?

Personally, i do not see how the war has been won.

So what’s this war on terror if it isn’t a war fought against terrorists?

I do not like the cavalier approach to war, it’s what has gotten us into this mess through Pres. Bush, who by the way has not sent his children or nephews to war. We do not have much of an army left to fight Iran, or the money to do it. These poor guys in Iraq don’t even have the proper weapons, gear, armor.
Wow! Are you Michael Moore?

Gimme a break

“Bush, who by the way has not sent his children”

Oh, sure! Lets give Laura and Barbara Bush some weapons and deport them off to war. And lets send Chelsea Clinton as well. Think rationally, amigo!

Used to be that a king would be less willing to wage war because he - along with virtually all his sons of fighting age, and thus, the entire line of succession - would be riding into battle.

Wonder where we’d be now if that tradition had continued to modern time.

Justinian, people tend to think more rationally and take fewer risks when their lives or the lives of those close to them are at stake and the situation is avoidable…such as the war in Iraq.

amith1

yes, you must be looking at different news reports. All those soldiers who “want to come home” and “don’t have the proper weapons, gear, and armor” are re-enlisting at a very high rate, and the Army (which has done most of the fighting) is 15% ahead of it’s goal for the year.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-04-09-army-re-enlistments_x.htm

and Bush cannot send his children to war! They are adults, and they can enlist if they want to. No parent can “send their kid to war”, and Bush is no different.

I think the point i was making was akin to karthikkito in that if Bush knew his family would be involved in this war, would he have waged it. and sure, his daughters don’t have to serve if they don’t believe in the war their father has started ;). why would it be so bad to see laura and barbara and chelsea in Iraq? why are they different than any other woman serving in Iraq? help me out with that one. I have to say, my buddy the army recruiter has a very different perspective on the re-enlisting item and the army being 15% of it’s goal. what goal is that?, because he can’t get anybody to enlist, and is being raked over the coals for it.
