The Roloff Boys

Community college here we come. The lack of maturity–especially Zach’s, is a tribute to their overly coddling mother. Still getting them up and making their lunch at 18???

Sorry barrons but what are you talking about? were you supposed to add a link to the thread?

It’s always the mother’s fault. Sometimes I feel like every problem in the universe originated with that darn mother! ;)

I was somewhat surprised with the episode that showed the boys going to take the SAT. They really had no clue; made me wonder about the school they go to. My daughter has friends who grew up in rural areas who graduated from high schools that weren’t strong academically and they suffered for it in college.

Every time I watch the show, I am stunned by the parents’ lack of parenting skills. It’s like they compensate for Zach being little by giving him the “easiest” life possible…which is not to his benefit.

ok…nm…out of the TV loop

Little People/Big World show on TLC=the Roloff family

OMG–I saw the show last night. Now the boys can continue living on the farm and acting like little kids for another 2 years. For crying out loud–they’ve lived in Oregon all their lives but neither of them knew how to spell it correctly on their community college application! They’ve been too sheltered in their little Faith Bible School. The parents are clueless as to how the students from Faith Bible School stack up against other students across the country. They think that Jeremy is a soccer star. Have they ever watched a typical soccer game at a competitive public high school?

They live just outside of Portland proper…not really all that rural.

We watched the show last night too. DH commented that Zach esp. acted like a spoiled brat. We figure the Roloff boys have prob.reaped great benefits froom the show and see no need to work hard at school as long as they can ride the LPBW gravy train.

Did the parents go to college? I watch this show every now and then but not always. I just wonder since the school isn’t guiding the kids as far as the college process and the parents seem to be clueless. Are the parents clueless because they just don’t know what to expect so don’t know how to help the boys?

Sorry, shesonherway, I just assumed it was rural since it looks to be a bit of property and not a neighborhood.

Edit: Or PackMom could have hit on something with the reality show gravy train. Not to derail the thread but anyone else see Kate Gosselin’s new hairstyle extensions? (sorry!)

Amy graduated from Central Michigan. Matt did not go to college, I think. Hence the barb from Zach to Matt about college.

I went to community college. Gosh. It’s really not the seventh circle of hell. And look at this way, their fame and money isn’t taking someone else’s spot at Harvard.

So, good to know I’m not the only one watching. These boys look like they would benefit from a year of working in a fast food restaurant. They are certainly not ready for school. Or, going to a third world country and helping build homes. My daughter got me hooked because she thought the taller twin was cute-- no accounting for taste-- brains vs brawn certainly applies here!

I read that Jeremy might look into modeling. Might have a shot.

I don’t think anyone is bashing community college. I think that many of us are of the opinion that their HS has not prepared them well for even basic CC work and that their parents have not placed a lot of emphasis on education.

…and tell me Molly can’t wait to get the heck outta dodge. That girl is suffocating.

To confirm, Matt indeed did not go to college. I remember an episode where Matt told Jeremy he (Jeremy) was Wharton material.

Since these kids are now 18 (I’m presuming), perhaps they have individual contracts with TLC…and if they aren’t around for the filming, they don’t get the same contract as if they were?

The only one who occasionally exhibits a small bit of sense is the Mom. Matt reminds me of Balloon Boy’s Dad.

Maybe, but she is also short-sighted and very passive aggressive. Matt made all the moves that have them living in luxury as she *****ed the whole time I’m sure.

electron, Definitely nothing wrong with Community College. The point is that had the mother not brought them to the community college, walked them into the admission’s office, and helped to fill out the forms for them (i.e.–telling them how to spell “Oregon”), the boys would have been happy hanging out on the farm and never stepping foot into the real world.

By attending the community college which is 5 minutes away from their home, Mom can still check their homework, wake them up every morning, do their laundry, and manage their lives for them. Unlike many other 19 year olds, they don’t seem very anxious to leave the nest and test their wings.

I’m surprised the parents never planted the seed for Jeremy to enroll in a technical program. He seems very mechanically inclined. On the show, he seemed happiest when challenged with a new building project or working on the engine of his car.

The only one who seems to have any sense of reality is the younger sister.

Agreed
