THE SAT IS FLAWED. THE COLLEGE BOARD NOW SEES THIS!!!

THERES A NEW SAT STARTING SPRING 2016. IM TAKING THE SAT IN 2017. GREAT.

https://www.collegeboard.org/delivering-opportunity/sat/redesign

THE NEW SAT TESTS YOU ON VOCAB THAT YOU HAVE TO FIND IN THE PROVIDED TEXT.
THEY CALL IT “Relevant words in context” and “Command of Evidence”

They are also changing a whole bunch of other things. LIKE WHAT THE HECK

How am i supposed to even prep for the SAT now? THEY COMPLETELY REVAMPED THIS THING. I CAN’T PREP NOW BECUASE THERE ARE NO PREP BOOKS FOR THE NEW SAT!

Is the college board planning to release prep books for the new SAT anytime soon? This is not even fair. People who took the SAT earlier got access to hundreds of prep books and programs. BUT NOT US 2016 GENERATION KIDS. HOW THE HECK ARE WE SUPPOSED TO PREPARE NOW?

I think this is because there are a lot of “strategies” in the “Black Book” that are pretty much guaranteed to work. If you have read the black book then you know what i’m talking about.

Black Book: http://www.amazon.com/SAT-Prep-Black-Book-Strategies/dp/0615780849

For example, for the CR section, the correct answers is ALWAYS FOUND in the PROVIDED PASSAGE because there are ALWAYS multiple ANALYSES someone could make on a passage. Therefore the SAT asks you what the text LITERALLY said and the CORRECT question is NEVER AN ANALYSIS. THE SAT JUST GIVES YOU ANALYSES AS OPTIONS FOR ANSWERS TO TRICK YOU INTO THINKING YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO ANALYZE STUFF. IN REALITY YOU JUST HAVE TO CHOOSE THE ANSWER THAT IS NOT AN ANALYSIS. ANALYSES ARE NEVER CORRECT ANSWERS BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD MAKE A MILLION ANALYSES BASED OFF OF A PASSAGE.

I am assuming that the COLLEGE BOARD has now realized that its CR section is deeply flawed and can easily be outwitted by students who know this “no analysis strategy”. There are many other flaws in the SAT that the “Black Book” points out, such as the GUESSING STRATEGY. THE COLLEGE BOARD ADVOCATES THE “ELIMINATE AND GUESS” STRATEGY EVEN WHEN THEY KNOW THAT THIS STRATEGY DOES NOT WORK!!! THAT IS WHY THEY ARE TAKING AWAY THE PENALTY FOR GUESSING IN THE NEW SAT!!!

My life is ruined. The college board just wants to trick trick trick people all year long. The SAT is flawed and always will be, since the SAT only tests student on basic skills in a deceiving manner. They MUST deceive people OTHERWISE EVERYONE WOULD GET HIGH SCORES ON THE SAT.

I am not very good at explaining these things. If you do not understand what I am trying to say, then read the black book and be exposed to the SAT’s flaws.

If you don’t like it, boycott the SAT and take the ACT instead. Schools take both these days.

When I was 10, I read the dictionary. I thought it was a big poem about everything! ;))

You might as well drop out now before you find the school system to be flawed.

Study for the ACT

For starters, the College Board doesn’t really care if changing the test makes it difficult for you to prepare. As long as it all changes at the same time, then it equally effects all members of an incoming class, so the playing field is even.

And, for what it’s worth, you are not the first class to ever have to prep for a new and “improved” SAT. It has happened several times before. And yet people have survived.

Your “life is ruined” because they’re changing a test you haven’t taken yet, and it’s being changed for all the other students also taking it at the same time??? I’m sincerely hoping that that particular line was written tongue-in-cheek, and that the humorous tone you were hoping for just didn’t translate well.

My friend’s 14 year old son just had a stroke. Yet he’s not complaining that his life is ruined. Forgive me if I fail to properly appreciate your plight.

I love the SAT. I want to marry it. I’m only afraid it will get worse with the tinkering.

And @bjkmom, hugs to your friend and their son. My friend’s younger sister had a stroke at 15, after being an athlete and very healthy. She recovered 100% thankfully, but it was very scary (missed a year of HS).

If you think it can be so easily outwitted, why don’t you just take it now before the SAT changes? I mean, since you’re so certain.

Why not ditch the SAT altogether, take the ACT, and go to drama school? Besides, if you are taking it in 2017, there will be a new Blue Book out there. Please calm down. Your dramatics will only make you a joke on CC.

Look, dont stress it out too much.

The new SAT prep guide is coming out soon. Buy it and start studying ASAP. Like others stated above, you could simply take the ACT instead. Looks like the SAT is turning into the ACT anyways, lol

^^Current SAT vs Redesigned SAT^^

That’s totally fine. Colleges weigh both tests equally.

The ACT is more of a knowledge based test, whereas the SAT is more of a reasoning based test. The ACT question style is more straightforward as well, but the timing is extremely harsh, so practice on timing if you aren’t good at it. I would recommend finishing Pre-Calculus before taking the ACT (so you can be fully prepared for the math section).

YES. You must take either one before applying, as well as an additional 2 SAT II Subject Tests.

Another thing, posting 3 threads within 3 hours will not bring you any comfort. Just take it nice and slow, and start studying early for the ACT (or the SAT if you choose to take it) to ensure success. If you want, you may choose to take the current SAT, but I would recommend taking it in October or November of this year before they change the test.

To prep for the ACT, get the red book, newest edition (The Official ACT Prep Guide)

I don’t think I am ready to take the SAT that early. I am only a freshman in HS and I am aiming for a 2400. I don’t think it it possible to prep for a 2400 SAT score in half a year. Guess i have to take the new one D:

Also, why do most people prefer the SAT over the ACT?

I am going to take the SAT in 2017. This is when the old SAT will no longer be offered. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PREPARE.

Will the old prep books made by the college board still help?
Like the blue book? Will studying the blue book even help me anymore?

I also have the “SAT Prep Black Book”. Will this even help me on the new SAT?

In short, will any of the old prep materials help prepare me at all for the new SAT? I can’t afford to wait for new prep materials to come out, I am running out of time.

Most likely because its easier to study for. It also doesn’t have a science section. I personally HATE ACTs, because I find it ridiculous that people HAVE to take advanced math to be prepared, as well as the fact that the science section is a complete and utter joke, and is only a matter of reading comprehension.

Anyways, 6 months is more than enough time to prepare for the SATs. You are honestly being unrealistic when saying you are aiming for a 2400. Take the PSATs in October, and see how you do. Or, if you choose, buy the current SAT study guide, take a practice test (cold, with no preparation) and see how you do.

Otherwise, you will have to take the new SAT. Wait until prep materials come out. Stop stressing yourself over SATs now, its still freshman year for you. At this point just get familiar with the format of each exam. You’ll be fine.

I’m taking the SAT when the NEW SAT will be MANDATORY. This will be in 2017. In 2016, the new SAT will be out, but the old one will still be offered. In 2017, the old SAT will no longer be offered and the new SAT will be the only option. I am taking the new SAT in 2017.

There are NO PREP BOOKS available for the NEW SAT. In short, I cannot even prepare for the new SAT.

Is it okay if I only take the ACT? What is the Difference between the SAT and ACT?

Do all Ivies require ACT or SAT?

I appreciate the advice, but the reason I’m stressing out so much is because I screwed up my freshman year of HS so far. I already got a B- last semester and this semester I am probably going to get another B.

These kinds of scores are just unacceptable when it comes to Ivy League standards, which is why I am determined to get a 2400 on the SAT to make up for this.

@rigid123 Why are you freaking out so much? You always have the option of taking the ACT and going for 36, or sucking it up and preparing for the new SAT (there are already prep materials out there).

There is a book for the new SAT, look for it in Amazon (it is the one with a green cover)
