The Tennis Thread

I am! We’re flying out tomorrow morning, and have tickets for every session from the 9th through the 15th.

Enjoy! Maybe next year for me. I’ll be going to Miami this year -but just for the first two rounds.

Here is Serena’s statement:

Serena: “Sadly, I have to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells and the Miami Open. I have not been able to train due to my knees and am disappointed I cannot be there. I will keep moving forward and continue to be positive. I look forward to being back as soon as I can.”

Angie will get back #1 for sure now since Serena has final points in IW and qtrfinal points from Miami that will drop off.

So far the matches I’ve seen on TC have been very ho-hum. Going to look and see if there are better matches on the betting site.

Genie should stick to modeling. 67UEs. I’m so glad I stayed up late to watch. Always a good day in TennisWorld when Genie loses.

I read in the Perth news that Tomic the Tank Engine lost again in the first round. Sheesh. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy (unless it was Kyrgios).

Yup 2&2. I was half paying attention for a wee bit and before I knew it they’d gone to another match. It was a very quick exit.

Paire really needs to shave off that awful beard - and I never realized how much Taylor Fritz looks like Eddie Munster!

Spent the day at the tournament. I saw a lot of really fun men’s doubles.

I’m watching Rafa and Tomic playing Carreno Busta and Sousa right now. Quite a match!

Loaded dubs draws for sure!

I saw a bit of the Brits/Lopez Lopez.

I went to sleep after KaPlisk went down 0-3 in the 3rd. Shocked when I saw this morning she won. She was broken a zillion times and couldn’t find the court to save her life. She fluked the 2nd set. I’ll have to watch the rest to see how she won the 3rd.

Young v Kozlov was wakadoodle.

This year Rafa, Murray, Wawrinka, Djokovic, etc… are all playing doubles. My sister is a writer/editor and covers the tournament for work. We were wondering if they gave them some incentive to play doubles so she asked the media guy. The stats guy for the tournament said they don’t give them an incentive, but there are a lot of reasons that they like to play. It is early in the season, it is a long tournament with days off, evidently the surface and altitude(sea level) make the balls do different things so they like to play doubles to get used to it, and a few more that I can’t remember.

We were at the Kozlov vs Young match. Very crazy! Only one point won on serve in the tie-break!! And so many double-faults! I saw Kozlov practicing at the hotel Thursday but didn’t know who he was.

Yep. That’s why they all play dubs in IW and Miami. Days off like at slams and they only play 3 sets matches so they don’t have to worry about expending to much energy in singles matches. And some of the teams use it as practice for DC which is right after Miami.

Holy cow!!! Sure wasn’t expecting that…

Looks like Murray cannot handle a really good serve and volley game - like Zverev in the AO and now Pospicil.

Popsicle and Lucie saving tennis in one fell swoop - so worth staying up until 4am!

I think Murray was out early last year too. I am happy for Pospicil, sounds like he had a bit of bad luck last year.

Yeah, he’s never done well in IW - but he had a cake walk to the semi at least. The qrtr of death is on other side of the draw.

Djoker played like garbage and Edmund still couldn’t take the 2nd set. Pah. If Roger doesn’t suddenly go walkabout all In the qrtr of death march on to 3rd Rd.

Well done Angie. Really hung in there. Was down 5-2 in the 3rd, iirc, and hung on to win 7-5. Took 4 match points to get through.

Thank you Gael! Nice beat down.
