Awful what happened to Venus with that accident. Horrendous for the other family. The police report pointed the finger at Williams, but it sounds like she wasn’t at fault. Nice to see her gather herself at Wimbledon.
I don’t see Ostapenko cementing herself in the top 5 unless she develops more composure. She plays like she has a thumbtack in her sneaker. Great physical and technical tools, but needs to calm down mentally. Channel some Venus.

I usually don’t pull for Venus but her job today was to get rid of Ostapenko from the tourney, so I’m quite pleased.
I tried to give Jelana/Alona a chance but I cannot stand her jumping around just as opponent is throwing up their toss and her general all around bratiness.
Very happy for Garbine. She’s had a dreadful time of it since winning RG, so nice to see her playing so well. Hopefully she’ll dump Sumyk after Wimby. Very toxic relationship and a big part of her woes, imo.
Now, I just need Simona to take care of Konta and Magdalena to finish off Coco and it’ll be a great day in TW.

Happy for Venus!!! Will root for Roger and Sam tomorrow. A few years ago we watched Sam at the US Open in the grandstand right behind his dad and uncle. They were not sitting in the players box because they are so tall they liked the general admission seats in front with lots of leg room. They seemed to be very nice people.
Both ladies SF were ho-hum but i expect the final will be much better.
Interesting coincidence that Conchita will be in the box as she beat Martina the first in Wimby final when she was also 37.
It also struck me with all the talk about Venus’ age compared to Martina that Martina was beaten by a Spaniard, Conchita, when she appeared in the final at 37. Hope Venus has a better outcome.
