I was really touched to see Roger showing emotion after the end of the match and he seemed to be waving to the kids which was cute. Not much of a match today, but a good tournament.

Quick look see found 1st Rd matches Roger v Tiafoe and Martha v Halep. If Roger’s back is ok, I expect him to have no trouble with young American despite him taking out Sasha in Cincy, who was completely knackered.
Halep is a fragile mess atm and is awful against players who can hit her off the court. H2h is 6-0 in favor of Martha. I can see her taking her out Simona if she is healthy.
This will definitely be a night match, so even if Martha loses we will get to see her in this dress.

Did anyone read The Singles Game book about a tennis player coming back from injury, re-invented by new coach? One thing he does is to go with glamour - adding swarovski crystals to her outfit? Did Sharapova read it in her time off? Her outfit is too much - leather trim, lace panels, crystals on skirt. Do you think she promised to wear a Project Runway look that turned out wrong? Yikes.
The dress is glam. Simona couldn’t pull it off. I’m glad Maria is back.
As before, Maria is the best-dressed woman at the US Open. Nothing to reinvent here - she always could and still can play tennis. She is fitter than before. In the absence of Serena - watch out.
Maria looked good. It will be interesting to see how the tournament plays out and if she can last a few rounds. She always wears something flashy when she plays at night at the Open. I don’t necessarily care for her, but I think she will make the tournament more interesting.

On the men’s side, five of the top 8 hard court players in the world are not playing (Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka, Raonic and Nishikori). I would not be surprised if at least one or two other top players pulled out in the first week.
As for Maria, I hope she can return to her 2014 form. She has had a rough 18 months, and with Serena out for the next 6-9 months, and Azaranka distracted with child custody complications, the women’s game can benefit from a healthy Sharapova playing at her usual standard.
Had a fun day at the Open. So much tennis! The reserved seats on the Grandstand worked out great. The match between Coric and A Zverev was very entertaining. Going back tomorrow.
