@Tiredofsnow, I haven’t liked an American since Aaron Krickstein. I don’t mind the scrubs that much as they are never going to amount to all but random upset win here and there. Plus, they clutter up the draw and ESPN doesn’t show other matches if an American is playing (with Rogi, Rafa and Martha the exceptions.)
Most of the men and several of the women are huge MAGAers, too. Bleugh.
The men’s Nike uniforms are awful. Rafa’s uniform wasn’t as bad, but still not good. The women’s outfits seemed to be a better shade of pink. I am hoping the Americans playing today do a little better.
Looks like only the minions are dressed from head to toe as highlighters and only Genie finally won a match Bouchard among the ladies. Not really liking the pale pink on the fair skinned girls. They all looked washed out.
And the crop top doesn’t work. Liked Fila - especially the pleated skirt some girls are wearing.
Loved Angie’s kit. She looked untouchable in first set before going a bit wayward early in the second. Liked Stella too.
Simona/Destinee was just bizarre. Hope her ankle isn’t too badly injured.
KMLad’s losing streak is now at 15. Has to be a record for a top tenner.
Nice to see Stanley able to pull that match out.
Rogi a bit sloppy but all and all a nice match for rd1.
Really enjoyed watching the young Aussie. Shame he had to go out in first round.
Can’t wait for Djoker and Le Monf. I’ve got Gael coming through in my draw (which is a fricking mess now with both The Kokk and RBA going out and KAndy and Kohli yesterday.)
Only 8 Americans left - 4 men and 4 ladies (one who was a LL who took Konjuh’s place after she withdrew.) It has to be karma.
She’s been a hawt mess since the summer. Had something like 45 UEs and lost 3-6, 2-6. And to top it off double faulted on match point. She’s quite arrogant and there was a big brouhaha between her and CarolineG after their doubles split, when she boasted how much smarter she is (her infamous, “I speak 5 languages and graduated high school and she’s a drop out.”) Then Mugu gave a dig after losing to her at RG, saying in her presser she “heard” she speaks 25 languages when they asked her if Kiki saying “forza” after Mugu made errors upset her.
It’s been down hill for her ever since.
It’s why I like the WTA so much lately. It’s a constant dramarama.
I have Goffin into the qtrs in my draw but losing to JMdP.
Last night was crazy! Wozniacki-Fett, Tsonga-Canadiansurferdude, etc… I fell asleep with the TV on and woke up to McDonald (UCLA boy)-Dimitrov in the 5th set. Very exciting!
When Sunshine broke for 2-5 you just knew the match was a Fett accompli.
And how bizarre that practically at same time JoWilly was doing the exact same thing to “Canadiansurferdude” ™ (by tx5athome)
And then GorgeousGoerges loses to her pigeon in straight sets. I should never trust these players who are cleaning up at MM tourneys but are perpetual flops at GS.
@alwaysamom, I knew she had twins last month but hadn’t seen the pics until yesterday. I didn’t have any idea she was still with Enrique.
It also appears the custody battle between Vika and the baby daddy might be coming to an end. The Judge in CA decided the case should be heard in Belarus - so we all know how that will end up.
I know Mackie McDonald a bit…I presume he is the aforementioned “random American guy”. He was the NCAA champ at UCLA and is a great kid. His development argues for some players to go to college (at least for a year or two) then turn pro. This is especially true for the guys who need some time to physically mature. He has a fine foundation… And yes… He got just a little tight on his forehand volley at a huge moment and it cost him the match. Too bad!
So because Konta failed to make the 4th rd, KikiM, despite losing her last 15 matches, moves up in the rankings.
Pera was very good. I hope she’s not another random American who gets hot for a few days then fades into oblivion.
How Petra lost to Petko the other day is baffling. Doubled bageled by of all people, Davis. Ouch.
Glad Domi was able to mount nice comeback, but kudos to Kudla for making a match if it.
I have all the afternoon and night matches still to go - was just to knackered to stay up past 11.
Felt sorry for the 15 yr old - after promising start of match it just went all downhill from there.
Cornut - forever the drama queen - limping, then running like a rabbit during points, falling down, dizzy spells, MTO, then running like a rabbit during points. Good on Elise for keeping it together at the end of second and not letting it go to a 3rd.
Shout out to Marin for taking out Harrison. Now Marterer, whoever you are, please, please, please take out Tennys Sandgarn.
I’m pulling for Angie (I have her winning it all in my draw.) I think it’s going to be a real barn burner and a shame it has to be in 3rd rd. Both have been very efficient on court so far, but have had a few wobbles, too. If it goes 3 my bets on Angie.
OTOH, what I’m hoping for is Angie dragging her in two quick sets 6-3, 6-2.
