The Tennis Thread

@partyof5, we will have to agree to disagree - especially since none of us how many times a year Roger, Rafa, Djoker, Halep, Mugu, Kerber etc have been tested this year. We don’t even know how many times Serena was tested in previous years compared to other players and not only other American player.

Plus, the year is only half over. We have no idea how many times those other players will be tested over the course of the next six months.

@tx5athome, I really like the Uniqlo kit Rogi is wearing. I like it even more since I saw what Nike was going to put him in for the USO. See my avitar.

Uniglo gave him 10 yr contract for $300 million. No way Mirka was going to let him pass that up!

I didn’t like Serena’s dress at all. It didn’t fit her properly, imo. Plus, it looked hot - especially with the tights on.

Really liked Sunshine’s dress and can’t wait to see Mugu’s kit. I saw pictures and it’s horrid. Reminded me of the gym suits we were forced to wear 45 years ago. It’s supposed to be a “retro” look.

I like what the Nike minions are wearing, too.

Very happy for Stanley and Aga today and happy Colleen lost - even though I had her in my draw. I’ll glady sacrifice the points I could have had.

V pleased to see Mugu not wearing gym suit top! Ruse wore it yesterday in her match against Aga (what a hawt mess that match was - poor Ruse had 6 match points at 4-5 in the 3rd but couldn’t convert).

Petra. :-?? And eating a bagel in the third. SMH

I need to pick more scrubs in my draws.

@partyof5

I was listening to a podcast last night and one of the journalist mentioned how many times Roger has been tested that he talked about at his pre-tourney presser after being asked about Serena. So I looked it up and sure enough…

“When Wimbledon defending champion Roger Federer was asked Sunday whether he believes that players are being drug tested excessively, he revealed he’s been selected for frequent testing lately.

“I’ve had a lot of testing last month,” said the top-seeded Federer, who will open defense of his title against Dusan Lajovic of Serbia on Monday. “I think I’ve had seven tests. It’s been quite heavy. Also blood and urine. Two in Stuttgart (tournament), (and) in Halle (at the tournament).

“I’ve been tested quite a bit, quite frequently out of competition.”

Here is a more comprehensive story on the testing of tennis players.

“Williams wasn’t alone in feeling aggrieved. When Keys heard about Williams’s five tests, she said, “My first thought was why has she only gotten tested five times when I’ve gotten tested eight or nine times.”

“Querrey grew indignant upon hearing that the Usada database had credited him with no completed out-of-competition tests this year.

After advancing to the semifinals of Wimbledon and the quarterfinals of the United States Open last year and ascending to a career-best No. 11 in the rankings in February, Querrey figured he would be targeted more frequently for tests. And he insisted that he had been.”

“I’ve probably been tested at my house this year seven times,” Querrey said, adding, “I feel like I get tested at home eight to 10 times a year and at tournaments 10 times a year. It’s a ton.”

So who had Guido Pella in their draw?!?

This Federer-Anderson match is crazy!

Very bummed that Roger lost.

I had to turn it off when Anderson broke because I was so despondent. I guess I will root for Anderson or DelPotro going forward. I had a bad feeling yesterday when I saw they had assigned Roger to play on Court 1.

No good, terrible day at Wimbledon.

@2VU0609, i had that same feeling when I saw they put Roger on Court 1.

@UCMom19, ditto.

I follow Chris Evert on Twitter and she said there is a policy or rule (not sure which) of making sure that all 4 semi-finalists have played on Centre Court prior to the semi-final match. That’s why they had to send him to court 1 today. It certainly wasn’t good luck for him. Some good tennis today, even if things didn’t go my way in all matches. Was hoping that Fed would come through and England in World Cup :-S

Not the results I wanted today. I am glad that Isner is in the semis. The DelPo/Nadal match was very exciting to watch.

Thank goodness Angie won, rescuing my Wimby for one more day. I’m so so happy for her that she’s back in a GS final after annus horribilis 2017.

Aļona was awful.

So how long do you think this Isner/Andersen match will go???

I am no longer amused. I appreciate the quality of the tennis, but I’m ready to sign John McEnroe’s petition for the 5th set tie-break.

This is stupid for several reasons. Not much chance of competitive Sunday from either of these guys and it’s messing up the next match.

Absolutely agree. If they ever finish will they have Nadal and Djokovic finish under the roof?

I feel badly for Isner but congratulations to Anderson. I can’t even imagine how exhausted they both must be .

What beautiful comments by Anderson after his win. I will be rooting for him on Sunday!

Thank you KAndy, from the bottom of my heart, for taking out the trash!
