The Tennis Thread

I agree the match was too long. I’m also hoping they change the rules for the 5th set.

I rewatched the last few games and the post-match interview with Kevin Anderson. I feel so much for both players.

Congrats to Kevin Anderson, the Illini!

“This is stupid for several reasons. Not much chance of competitive Sunday from either of these guys and it’s messing up the next match.”

Who’s to say Rafa/Djoker won’t go this long. Remember the 6+hour match they played at the AO final?

Think about the fans in the stands. Yes, they can stretch their legs, but I can’t imagine sitting for this long.

The second match might go that long and get dinged by the curfew and it might get kicked over to next day. If they finish the next day, the winner doesn’t have a day off - still think that makes the final less than it should be. IMO

Wow! Let us know when the game resumes tomorrow!

And now since their match continues before the ladies, it makes the start time uncertain for the women’s final, which seems unfortunate

Is it before the ladies? That is a bummer.

I’d forgotten about the 11pm curfew.

So now no rest day for Rafa/Djoker, plus, it must have been really tiring just waiting around all day. And the still have to go through their post match massage, ice baths, eating, etc., and whatever else they do after a match, so quite a late night for them tonight.

It will make the final a little less one sided imo.

@tx5athome,

Yep, 1pm start and ladies is now NB 2:00p.

I always think about the umpire in these situations–sitting in that tiny chair for 6 hours… :((

Great day in TennisWorld today!!!

Rafa still 3 slams shy of GOAT and Angie beats Serena in straight sets!!! I still can’t believe it! So so happy for her. ^:)^

I love reading your posts here, @emilybee!

I’m also glad to see Kerber win. I’m becoming slightly more tolerant of Serena as she has developed better sportsmanship, but I’m still not a huge fan. Pam Shriver summed up how I feel just a bit ago when she said that early in her career, Serena had lots of success on court, but wasn’t successful in managing the off the court piece and didn’t appreciate her opponents, etc. Serena used to remind me of some of the obnoxious, but talented kids my own less than excellent kids would face in junior tennis. Serena has developed some humility in recent years, but I’m like an elephant in not forgetting about her past performance.

I’m rooting for Anderson tomorrow. I never liked Djokovic and really don’t since I heard McEnroe say he was the Tiger Woods of tennis, not referring to his on court play. They now euphemistically refer to his former drop in play as due ti his ‘family issues’.

Did anyone else notice that Meghan Markle could have been a line judge in that outfit? ;

I think Meghan was trying to create her own style separate from Kate. I preferred Kate’s outfit, but thought Meghan l was stylish. I follow WhatKateWore for royal news, but checked in on the sister blog, WhatMeghanWore, for the details on her outfit. Outfit by Ralph Lauren - shirt retails for $590 and white high waist trousers for $1690. The hat was by a different designer and originally retailed for $900, but is currently on sale for $540. Toss in the shoes, sunglasses, etc. and you have a price point beyond what many of us spend on clothing in a year. Since Ralph Lauren dresses the ball kids & officials at Wimbledon in a similar style, I can see how you drew your conclusion, TatinG

I’m disappointed for Kevin Anderson. I knew it would be more than an average challenge to come back full steam after Friday and we saw that it was. I hope he has a good hard court season.

Anybody going to the US Open? I am going the first Wednesday and Thursday. I have been watching a little of the qualifiers and the Nike outfit for the men looks great. I read that Serena’s outfit has one long sleeve and a tutu, so I don’t think I am going to like it (although I love her).

@tx5athome I too love Serena but don’t always love her choice of clothing.

Me!!

All next week through the weekend.

Serena’s dress looks like it belongs on the ice skating rink not a tennis court.

I skimmed both the draws earlier today but I need to study them in more detail. But, iirc, Serena, Venus & Simona are all in the same quarter. Angie got a great draw but she’s played like crap in both Canada and Cinvg. And Roger has Djoker in his. :frowning:
