I saw the tribute to Arthur Ashe, but the background music was the theme to Jurassic Park. ? Why?
Any thoughts on the dress code controversy at Roland Garros?
DH is in NYC for the opening days of the US Open. Gonna be hot out there!
I just saw the new Nike commercial with Serena , and it was fantastic!
@emilybee Yea, that looks like a skater outfit.
I was expecting to dislike Serena’s outfit, but I liked it. Not as ballerina looking as I expected. I also liked Rafa going back to the muscle shirt look.
As far as banning the catsuit, well, if Wimbledon can ban any color but white, the French can ban the catsuit.
We spent the last 2 days at the US Open. It was quite hot but we found shade and a nice breeze on the Grandstand.
Be still my heart! Lin-Manual Miranda’s Amex commercial playing during Roger’s match.
Except for Friday and Saturday I’ve never been hotter than at this Open - even in the shade.
It didn’t help that so many of my favs flopped at matches I was at. I love the new Louie but it’s def the graveyard court.
I have a few of my boys left in the draw, so there is still a sliver of hope.
I was happy yesterday with Naomi’s win. I cannot stand Sabalenka’s and her calculated screaming only when to disrupt the other player. Tossing her racquet at end of the match was very poor form, imo.
@emilybee what did you think about the day and night sessions on Armstrong?
I was really disappointed that Roger lost last night. We spent 90 minutes at about 6pm in Ashe on Wednesday watching Murray and there was no air movement. I also wonder if the new Uniqlo clothes don’t breathe as well as Nike.
I liked that they split the sessions because we were guaranteed two matches every night.
I was on Louie a lot more than usual as it was just too darn hot to get up and walk to another court most days.
Full disclosure - I’ve never cared for Serena and especially despised her after she blessed out the line judge the year Clijsters beat her. That said, I do respect what she has done for the womens’ game and I’ve softened to her a little bit over the last year or two. However, she is hardening my heart again with all the exposure of her baby in television ads, etc. I don’t believe that babies are accessories and I think she is monetizing Olympia, particularly in the Chase ad. Just my opinion though…
That’s her and her husband’s call. Some people feel ok with celebrating their babies in public - and some choose at some point (closer to school age) to stop the cameras.
It’s a glorious time for her as a woman, a mom and a tennis player - she rose to the occasion of the crowd tonight and TOOK that match.
It might not be the real Olympia in the ad. I remember the Agassi/Steffi commercial and it wasn’t their real kids and neither were the kids in the Roger ad a few years ago.
I’m still not a fan of hers and with each ridiculous kit she wears I like her even less.
I’d pretty much forgotten who my picks were in the draw but just checked for the first time and I’m shocked how well I’m doing.

All my picks are still left in the draw except Roger, but I had him losing in qrtrs to Djoker anyway.
I won’t post my women’s draw. KaPlisk was my last person standing.
My initial prediction were Djokovic (2011, 2015) vs Cilic (2014) and Nadal (2010, 2013, 2017) vs Del Potro (2009) semifinals. Not much of a prediction since those four have won 7 of the last 9 US Opens, and the other two that have won the USO in recent years (Murray 2012 and Wawrinka 2016) are struggling with their return from injury.
That being said, I expected Nadal to have a much easier time getting to the semis. The last three matches he has played have all been very challenging on him (13 sets and 13 hours to complete them). So while Nadal was my initial pick to defend his title, I now like Del Potro’s chances on Friday.
The bottom half of the draw is interesting. Djokovic should beat Millman, but he is still vulnerable and Millman has nothing to lose, so he will go for his shots. Cilic has the edge over Nishikori, but anything can happen there. I still think a Djokovic vs Cilic semi final is likely to materialize.
My semi picks are the same and I have Djoker winning it all.
After last night’s match (even though I was pulling so hard for Domi to come through) I’m up to #182 (top 4%)
It’s another brutally hot and humid day today. I don’t know how anyone can play in it. I was playing a few weeks ago at 8:30 in the morning and as I was in the middle of serving to get to 6 all in the 1st set (I was up 30-15 iirc) I just couidnt play one more point. Dropped my racquet and said, I’m done.
Fortunately for the players and spectators, it is going to cool down. The temperature is set to drop significantly tomorrow. On Friday, the nighttime temperatures should hover around the mid to high 70s and on Sunday, the nighttime temperature should be in the high 60s to low 70s.
But the humidity will remain in the 60% range throughout, so the conditions will still be difficult, but less so than in previous matches, where the temperatures were in the mid to high 80s.

I moved up again - even though I had Cilic winning.
I’m waiting for the storms to come and cool us down, too.
In the event of a Djokovic vs Nadal final, the weather could play an important part. Nadal plays best in sunny and warm conditions, where the elements are well pronounced. That setting is where his heavy topspin forehands is at its most devastating.
Conversely, Djokovic’s accuracy and control game thrives in cool, nighttime and indoors conditions.
There is a good chance that a nighttime game on Sunday will have temperatures in the high 60s, so it will be cool, which will favor Djokovic regardless. But if it rains, and the roof of Arthur Ashe Stadium is closed, this will further help Djokovic.
It will be interesting to see how things unfold in tonight’s semi final matches. Nadal and Del Potro have the top two forehands in the game, while Djokovic and Nishikori both have excellent return games. I am expecting two long, tight 4-5 set matches.
The semis did not go as I had hoped or imagined. I knew Nadal would be exhausted after the last three matches he played. 13 sets and 13 hours on the court over a 5 day period is way too much for a 32 year player. But he is such a fighter that I thought he would at least take the first or second set. I did not factor in injury as a possibility. Djokovic used to struggle against Nishikori, but not lately. Again, Nishikori had a long, 4 hour, 5 set match against Cilic two nights before.
The good news, I guess, is that Djokovic and Del Potro will both be well rested for the final. Most of their matches have been 2-2.5 hours long this past fortnight (I think they each had one three hour match), so they should be good to go. They are my two favorite players, so either way, I will be happy.

I jumped way up! I didn’t remember I picked JMDP to make the final when I filled out my draw so very pleasantly surprised.
It’s not surprising that Rafa’s knee would be his downfall - especially now that they put cement under the courts instead of asphalt.
I have Djoker winning but I will “sacrifice” my standing in the draw for JMDP taking the trophy. Unfortunately, with the courts being slow as molasses this year that favors Djoker.
I am in the “anyone but Djokovic” camp, so am hoping DelPo wins (I do like DelPo). But I think Djokovic is really in a groove right now.
Rooting for Serena. I feel like the slow courts (similar to Indian Wells) give Osaka a good chance if she can handle the pressure of playing her idol in a grand slam final.
