Nice to see college-educated (MBA) Collins in the semis. She has that confidence Jimmy Connors exuded. Next up is a rematch with Kvitova after losing two weeks ago in Brisbane.

“I have no idea anymore as far as the women’s draw goes, but I doubt anyone left I’m still pulling for wins.”

How about Kvitova? It would be great to see her win after what she has been through. Honestly, I would be happy to see any of the women remaining win. I like Pliskova as well, and she has never won a major, so it would be nice for her. Considering how awkward an ending to her USO maiden title was, I would be happy to see Osaka win a major without the drama. And Collins would be a cinderella story. Any of those four women could win and it would be a great story.

My fellow frog is also through to the semis and must now face my favorite player. My loyalties are going to be tested! But barring something exceptionally bizarre, this should be a classic Djokovic vs Nadal final. Both should be well rested, so unless one of them requires a marathon five-set match to get to the final, we could have a real epic on our hands…much like the 2012 AO final.

I’m pulling for Kvitty but will be very happy of Naomi or KaPlisk wins. I do not like Collins at all.I find her incredibly obnoxious on court.

It’s all about wishing Tsitsy wins it all for me. Anyone else will be horrid outcome. That is, of course, because I have zero expectation LovelyLucas beats Djoker.

I think you will be pleased with the women’s outcome. Not too sure about the men’s outcome though. I don’t see anybody beating Federer, Nadal and Djokovic in the space on one week.

Collins and Kvitty played a 3 hour match two weeks ago in Brizzy so it’s not a cake walk semi for Petra. Plus, it’s going to be hotter In Melbourne than it was today. Petra’s been known to wilt in those conditions.

I don’t see that either. Plus, he’s played several long matches.

Petra saved by the roof! While she might have won anyway, having the roof close was definitely to her benefit.

I’m just glad the obnoxious one is gone.

I’ll be happy with whoever wins, but I’m still pulling for Petra because of all she’s gone through the last few years.

Both finals look intriguing. No blowouts like the semis hopefully. Go Djoker and Naomi. Would be great to see super tiebreakers in both.

A big well done to Naomi and hugs to Petra for just coming up a bit short. It was a good final. Both played really well in all three sets.

Nice that Naomi gets to really celebrate her win this time.

This men’s final must be particularly unsettling for Federer fans. While most Federer fans dislike Djokovic more than Nadal, they will probably be rooting for the Djoker today because Nadal is the clear favorite to win his 12th FO, and if he wins the AO, that means he will be just one major away from tying Federer’s record, and two away from breaking it!

I just wanted to add that we really enjoyed the women’s final. We didn’t miss the grunting!

No surprise that Osaka is racking up the wins given her dad modeled her training after the Williams sisters. I’m happy for her!

“This men’s final must be particularly unsettling for Federer fans. While most Federer fans dislike Djokovic more than Nadal…”

No one likes Nole.

I had Djoker winning in my draw. That’s about the only good thing I can say.

And Rafa still has not lost a match when healthy.

Yep, he actually said in his presser he wasn’t 100%.

I like Djokovic. I do wish Nadal had played better; I think Djokovic still would have won but it almost didn’t feel like a real match.

^ Ok. He has one fan.

One thing that struck me about the match was that Rafa didn’t even play well long enough to get the fans excited enough to feed him some enthusiasm and support. It seems that usually happens for him at some point when he’s losing.

“No one likes Nole.”

Hehe! I know how you feel about Nole! Djokovic does has many fans, myself included…but to your point emily, Federer and Nadal have larger fan bases.

“And Rafa still has not lost a match when healthy.”

Hehe! It is amazing how he was perfectly 100% fit against Tsitsipas. But I would not worry about it. I am sure Nadal will be perfectly fit for Roland Garros!

@rosered55, the most shocking thing is Rafa barely did better than Murray did in the one practice set he played against Djoker.

It was a dud of a final.

To be fair, Nadal did not say he was not physically fit. He said he was not in form. In other words, he was not battle tested. Djokovic had played some very challenging matches in recent weeks leading up to his match against Nadal, and his level of play reached his usual highs. Khatchanov, Zverev, Medvedev, Shapovalov, Bautista Agut etc… all played him at a very high level, pushing him to the limits to win. Each of those matches pushed him. Nadal only played Tsitsipas, but he looked completely overwhelmed with the significance of that match that he did not give Rafa a game.

That being said, I am not sure anybody could have beaten Djokovic. He made 14 unforced errors in the last 6 sets he played. Nobody can beat Djokovic when he plays at such a level. Whether or not he can sustain that level of play for another year or two remains to be seen.

Regardless, I suspect Nadal will be the man to beat on Clay, and he should be in form for the rest of the season…assuming his knees hold up.

Went to the tennis yesterday in Delray. Saw dubs match with players I’d never heard of; Steve Johnson v Paolo Lorenzi - which was surprisingly competitive considering Paolo is 38. Then Kyrgios- who acted like an arse, yelling nasty things to people in the stands (got a warning for that,) sarcastically clapping at change of lines people and then acting uninterested in the match - which, of course, he lost to some guy from Moldova - who put his head down and ignored all the nonsense from the other side of the court.

Day ended with Bryan Bros winning a very entertaining match against Mannarino and Nys.

We were given by friend of a friend front row seats right behind the baseline, plus VIP entrance to Clubhouse.

We were also on TV quite a lot, according to friend who texted asking if that was us at the tennis.

I really enjoyed watching the Serena Vs Azarenka match last night. It was very high quality.
