The Tennis Thread

Oh my gosh. This is embarrassing.

Hooping the boys put on a better show than the girls did.

Can’t possibly be worse.

Thanks Maria for taking out the…

The start to this Nadal vs Berdych match certainly is unexpected.

Can hardly believe the first 2 sets. Wonder when the last time Nadal lost 2 sets like that.

It was worse!

No one beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row. :wink:

Just finished watching VB/Krygios. Match was NID but the young lad fought hard. Bit of shade being thrown by Murray there at the end of the 2nd. Not as much as Maria threw but still.

I didn’t believe it was possible that a match could be worse than the two last night! I know Madison is injured but Venus has been dreadful beyond words.

Glad that is finally over. Congrats Madison on your 1st GS semi-final! Hope she can recover quickly.

Yes, eb, very low energy match, I thought. Sorry to see Venus go out but the same erratic play she was showing the other night got her in the end. Honestly, this is the first time I’ve seen MK play and I still don’t know what to think. That was awful. On both sides.

The AM/NK match was interesting to me - it was very obvious that Murray had definite plans to, as Jim Courier said, “Make Nick as uncomfortable as he can”. It was also interesting to see them both try to rein in their true qualities (misery and toolishness)., which really kept the crowd out of the whole match.

ETA: eb, just saw her - the commentator IS Sam Smith.

It was only as close as it was because of the injury cropping up.

Is Nick a miserable git, too?

I read that Pat Cash went off on TA - including myPat - because they want Nick to reign it in a bit. Cashy always trying to stir **** up.

Sorry, emilybee, I wasn’t clear.

Andy = misery
Nick = toolishness

Australian tennis minds seem split between wanting NK to 1) quit acting the fool or 2) mature in his own time without all the pressure.

Ah. Gotcha.

I know they do. There were similar issue with LL in the beginning.

Just finished watching the 3rd set of Stan/Kei. I fell asleep in the middle of that set. Very surprised with the outcome. Stan had been so scratchy in his first 4 matches. But well done to him upping his level and getting through.

I’ve at 3 all in the 1st set of Djoker match. I find watching Milos play like watching paint dry.

Ok, that match was a yawner.

Interesting that not one young gun made it past the quarters.

I agree Emily. And those “young guns” are not so young any longer. Raonic, Dimitrov, Nishikori etc…are mostly aged 24-25. They are running out of excuses. Djokovic was a relatively late bloomer, breaking through when he was 23. Federer and Nadal were dominant by the time they were 20. Wawrinka vs Djokovic should be a good one. Their last two matches at the AO were 5-set nail-biters. Murray vs Berdych will likely not be as exciting.

30 is the new 20 so they are still young guns, imo.

I will be pleasantly surprised if Stan/your boy’s match lives up to the last two.

Murray/Berdy is a toss up, imo.

I want both Stan and Berdy to win so I am sure it will be a Murray/Djoker final. :frowning:

Maria/Katya very disappointing. Was never even a match.

Just sitting down to watch second semi and the boys.

Unsurprising result but Keys acquitted herself quite well for a first time semi-finalist. Great fight from her when she was down 1-5 to hold for 2-5. She will definitely be a multiple GS winner.

Serena’s histrionics in the last game were silly. She’s was up 5-2 ffs. God, I can’t stand her.

Don’t care who wins the title but I suppose it would be nice if Maria can get a win over her for the first time in 11 years.

It was fun to watch Keys play Serena. Keys definitely has promise. I was always a Lindsay Davenport fan, so that makes me like her even more.
