The Tennis Thread

Just got a chance to finish watching yesterday’s matches. Kudos to wee Rus/Aus firecracker in taking out
The Shrieker.

Was also nice to see JMDP back even if in a losing effort.

More crying today on court - this time Madison Keys. She played a horrible match but still…

And the fall cameth with a bagel for brunch. Such a shame it wasn’t televised. Bye Genie :-h

By the time I remembered to turn on the women’s singles match today it was over. Happy to see that the Tennis Channel is showing the mens doubles.

TC is showing women’s final later if you want to watch.

I recorded it but haven’t watched yet. Have a feeling it is going to be one way traffic.

RG draw is out.

Djoker/VB/Rafa all on same side of draw. Rafa seeded 6th. I think he would have been 7th except Raonic pulled out due to injury.

For those not watching the tourney’s in run up to RG - first time in like forever Rafa hasn’t won a European clay court title before RG. He looked a shell of himself and VB absolutely destroyed him in Madrid final. 3-2 iirc.

Andy Murray beat Rafa in Madrid in two sets.

VB is Andy Murray. I believe it was 6-3;6-2.

VB?

It harkens back to a long ago match of Murray’s at the USOpen. A 5 setter during which he didn’t feel so well but won.

I like Murray. After seeing him sign autographs and pose with the kids at Indian Wells, while he’s on his way to or from the practice court, he seems likeable to me. I’ve seen others brush past the kids, pretend they don’t see them.

So far pretty ho hum. I’m behind by about 3 hours today - so hoping for more interesting matches later on. And only one five setter so far.

@emilybee I have to agree. I was a little disappointed in the play today overall. Not really looking forward to any matches until Round of 16 after looking at the draw

My brother got tickets to the Wimbledon men’s quarters in the lottery (court 1). We usually go for a day every summer but join the queue or have occasionally been lucky enough to get court 3 tickets online the day before. First time we’ve been lucky in the lottery. Really excited! (Hoping for no rain as it is court 2, not centre court so no roof)

Later matches didn’t get any better. Really boring first two days. Not even much drama on the wimins side to peak my interest - though Cornet was her usual entertaining self. On the fashion side of things I must say was glad to see Aga’s disco dress made a very short appearance. Heaven help us if Lotto puts Carla in that dress. Even Aga couldn’t make it look good, so I shudder to think. And Maria shouldn’t wear pleats.

swimcatmom, yay for lottery tkts!! I’ll cross my fingers for you.

I miss going to Wimby and even miss the queue. Maybe now that I’m done with tuition I should plan a trip next summer.

I didn’t love Maria’s skirt but I did really like the top. The men’s outfits (aside from all black Murray) have been quite colorful. I liked Rogers outfit. Stevie Johnson looked like he was representing the University of Oregon. I didn’t mind the pattern, but Wawrinka’s outfit was too pink. I read somewhere that Fognini didn’t like his outfit, but they told him if he won they had a white one.

OH you should! Maybe even try the international lottery (I tried but didn’t get anything, luckily my brother was lucky in the UK one). The queue is fun, makes for a long day getting there at 5 a.m though.

Is it wrong I’m hoping for anyone but Raonic to be in the qtrs on court 1 (not 2 like I posted above). Nothing against him, but he is a little dull to watch.

Stan’s kit brings back sweet memories of Pat’s surfie shorts. The only problem is Stan’s not Pat.

Johnson did look like he was on his way to do some duck hunting.

I’ve queued a lot and several days in a row. I have even tented. It is exhausting but definitely fun - although I’ve felt like a drowned rat many times by the time we’re finally let in.

Not wrong at all. Maybe he won’t be fully recovered and will pull out or lose well before the qtrs,

The French Open looks fun. Have you been? Should I put it on my post-college tuition bucket list?

I’ve never been but was in Paris one year in the mid 80’s during the tourney and was sick in bed for a few days and all that was on TV was RG - but I suppose that doesn’t count.

I could see combining trip to Europe to coincide with RG.
