Oh vey.

emily, I agree that the odds favor Djokovic on a slow surface, especially in a best of 5 scenario. But If Djokovic has a bad day, Federer can definitely win.

I watched a couple sets of the Murray vs Ferrar match. It is really amazing to watch Andy Murray rant at his box. Do you think he knows how stupid he looks?

He probably does but doesn’t care.

Watching Raonic/Gael now. I can’t believe lovely Carlos is in his camp now. So disappointed.

I agree about Murray; that’s why I dislike him so much. And on the other end was lovely David Ferrer - he could be a total jerk but we wouldn’t know it by his demeanor on the court.

Oh, I forgot the other thing I dislike about watching Murray play - the grabbing at some body part when he makes a bad shot. This leads people to say things like “He wasn’t playing that well, but he was injured”.

Such a contrast between R/G. It was nice to see Carlos in the box. R said after his match with Wawrinka, when asked what Carlos brings to his team, “calm”. If R gets much calmer we may all fall asleep, although Courier has been talking about all the anti-anxiety stuff R does to be able to play (the mouthguard, the sleeve, some kind of tapping ritual). Also talked about what a hard worker he is. Gael, on the other hand, is a joy to watch, and he seems to have a pretty good temperament on court.

3 more NID matches last night. I woke up in middle if Roger/Nole massacre so listened for a bit before falling back to sleep. At least he won a set.

Have no idea who will win tonight.

I think Raonic is on the spectrum.

I woke up in the middle of the night and watched the second and third set.

I heard an interesting report on NPR this afternoon about Roger and how people are calling for his retirement. This reporter said its ridiculous since even at his age he is a top 4 in the world, still loves to play and how many players still in their prime would give anything to have the results Roger has. Also, how it should be a players choice when to hang it up.

Roger made 59 million in endorsements last year. He did the work and now he is reaping a lot of financial rewards.

People are cynical and don’t understand somethings…

Fed should continue to play as long as he wants to. He certainly looks like he is enjoying himself.

My H and I had this discussion last night. Roger’s still making at least the semis for every tournament he plays! I think he deals with the disappointment of losing much better than I deal with the disappointment of him losing.

Novak is not my favorite player by a long shot, but he was playing incredibly well last night. He is doing these commercials for ANZ bank here where he’s walking down the hall and says “I win in many worlds”. Blech. Can’t argue with his tennis right now, even though I find his game incredibly boring. And him incredibly irritating.

Did you see the interview with Roger asking him if his twin girls (now 6) ever give him any tennis advice? He said they do sometimes - they told him to “go for the lines” because they really like that and the second recommendation was to “hit the ball one way while you’re looking the other way”. He said he told him that was a little hard to do but maybe he would try it.

I find Djoko boring to watch too and also can’t stand his personality. Plus, his hair. Bleugh.

Roger’s girls are adorable.

Is the paint dry yet?

Why are the men not playing their semi final matches on the same day? Surely, this favors the ones who play their semi final a day earlier, in this case Djokovic. I don’t mind, but it is unfair on the other finalist. It gives Djokovic an extra day to relax and prepare, and refocus after what must have required an major emotional outburst to beat Federer the way he did. Murray will have to regroup in one day, and recover after this brutal 4 hour semi final.

I agree Roger’s girls are adorable. Hard to root for either of these guys, but I guess I will root for Djokovic. I didn’t watch the Murray vs Raonic match. Was Murray acting like a jerk to his box again? I am definitely rooting for Serena.

I did watch a little of the women’s doubles final. I was glad it was being shown on TV. Hingis looks great.

It’s odd that commentators talk about Roger retiring at 34, when Serena is exactly the same age (just a month younger than Roger). She’s number 1, he’s number 3, but there is a lot more quality at the top of the men’s field than the women’s.

I’m going to root for Murray because he has not won the Australian and because he is such a nice guy off the court.

I will root for Murray because he is less vile than Djoko.

I don’t care who wins. It will be boring and I don’t want to watch either of them celebrate.

I agree about the Serena/Roger conversation (and Venus is even older). I guess Serena has had some time off that Roger hasn’t for various reasons and maybe the men’s game is more grueling with more sets played? I don’t know, just speculating. And there’s no dispute that Serena is still #1, so maybe less of an argument that her game is slipping.

Somehow I think that if Rafa doesn’t do very well at the French, he may retire.

The commentators here were saying maybe that’s why Federer had so much support in the crowd the other night against Djokovic - that it may be the last time we see Roger in Oz. (I personally think it’s because as much as he tries, everyone is still meh about Djokovic.) These younger guys need to start stepping up!
