Is djokovic ever going to play a complete match?
Sock’s win was definitely unexpected. I expected Cilic to make it to the QF or even further.
What is most surprising is the fact that Djokovic has reached the fourth round playing fewer than 5 sets and spending roughly just three hours on the court. When the draw came out, the prospect of playing Janowizc, Vesely and Youzhny in three straight matches gave Djokovic arguably the toughest first three rounds of any of the top seeds. Looking back on it now, Djokovic’s draw has been very easy indeed.
Men… 9 of 16 top seeds into R16 (if Kyrgios advances). 6 of 8 highest seeds left in the draw.
Women… 11 of 16 top seeds into R16! 7 of 8 highest seeds left in the draw! It’s a miracle Father, it’s a miracle!
This is probably petty, but I hate it when the women look like they are dressed for the practice court instead of a match. It’s bad enough that the clothes this year, for the most part, are so ugly, but put forth some more effort ladies! I must have some British DNA because I like it that Wimbledon imposes a dress code.
Dubboyne, Kyrgios withdrew. Only 8 of the top 16 seeds reached the R16. However, all 8 of those 16 are top 10 seeds, so the top 10 seeds have played their part. I fully expect 7 of the 8 QF players to be top 10 seeds (Del Potro beating #8 seed Thiem should be the only exception). I also expect 3 of the top 4 seeds to make it to the SF. Wawrinka, the #3 seed, could well fall to unseeded Del Potro. Del Potro is playing like a top 5 seed, and should be back among the top 5 in the next 6-9 months…if his health holds up. Here’s hoping.
Rafi…noooooo! =((
I’m exhausted and I didn’t even have to play 4 hours of tennis!!
What a good match that was! I was rooting for a different outcome, but some excellent tennis.
Lovely Lucas!!! Beautiful, beautiful result! Watched the last 3 sets on the big screen but I’ve been at both his other 5 setters this week and he is definitely list worthy.
And big thanks to JWT for taking out Sock and Sunshine for taking out the BBB.
I’m looking for someone newer and younger to follow and I think Lucas might be it. And Tiafoe.
I was rooting for Rafa, but am now a fan of Pouille.
I’ve been desperate for some new tennis totty and Lucas caught my eye at Wimby this year, but I don’t put any one on my list before seeing them in person, He passed with flying colors. Bonus points for having a nice game, too.
Thiem has gone on my list, too.
It’s been slim pickings but, yes, some newer options are nice. Feliciano is always fun to watch
but he often doesn’t advance far enough.
Lots of tennis fans/serious players in my family… they all raved about that Nadal/Pouille match, saying it’s one that will be remembered for a long time.
I really like Pliskova’s tennis outfit today - the whole look including the shoes - classic and classy.
Back from the Open. Today’s matches (that I saw) were pretty meh. I wasn’t even paying that much attention until Stan lost the plot serving for match. Kei/Ivo match was dull as dishwater. Kei is boring and Ivo is boring-er. Shame that my last match ever on Louis was such a dud. I’m going to miss it. Saw so many great matches there and on the GS over the last 30 or so years. But I’m sure the new Staduim will be fantastic. Supposedly next year there is going to be a temporary stadium in one of the parking lots. Not looking forward to that at all.
Saw the score of Venus/KaPlish and heard it was a good one so I’ll have to watch it online. Just saw the end of VB/Dimi. I don’t know why he even bothers any more - the useless mug.
Shame Domi had to retire but I was pulling for JMdP so it’s all good.
@doschicos, most of my guys don’t stay around long. Feli is indeed darling has a very lovely bum.
The QF draw on the men’s side went as expected for the most part. I was surprised, but pleased, with the Nadal Pouille outcome. As a Frenchmen, I am delighted to see three of my countrymen make it to the QF. I am hoping for a Djokovic vs Del Potro final. Hopefully, both will remain healthy and make it happen.
Except for Harrison/Robot, Lucas/Rafa and the random Eastern European upsetting a couple of top seeds on women’s side draws have held together.
I don’t consider Konjuh beating Aga an upset since she had her dead to rights at Wimby before twisting her ankle stepping on ball.
Hoping lovelyLucas has something left in the tank today to make it a match against Gael (who I’m hoping will lose that hideous facial hair after the Open.)
Allez les bleus!!!
“Allez les bleus!!!”
I like it!
Lovely Lucas, who couldn’t buy a mistake on Sunday, made error after unforced error today. Good for Gael.
