Nope, still the same old Gael.

“Djoker really needs to ditch that stupid celebration.”

Hehe! I don’t usually agree with you on anything related to Djokovic, but I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one; his celebration routine is stupid and annoying.

I think the game-time played deficit between Djokovic and his opponents is becoming evident. If the final goes beyond three sets, Djokovic will likely have a significant advantage.

Bah! I like Djokovic. Let him do his thing. At least he has personality, something many tennis players are lacking in and he’s not temperamental and obnoxious like some of the big names from the past.

Very disappointed in Monfils. Ugh. Rooting for Stan (and hopefully a good match) in the second match because I don’t think Kei has a chance against Djokovic.

You can see these things at 12 and under matches. One girl played possum and another one got emotional and started missing easy shots. At least nobody cried.

Thank goodness Stan only went on short walkabouts tonight.

Now go snatch the title!!

The final should be interesting. Wawrinka is inconsistent in early rounds, but he is fairly consistent once he gets past the QF. When was the last time that he lost in a final? Typically, assuming he and Djokovic have had similar paths to the final, I would have said the game could go either way as Wawrinka certainly has the firepower to keep up with Djokovic. However, in this instance, I think the weather and overall fitness level are going to be central to the final result.

Heading into their respective SF matches, Djokovic had played 9 sets over 6.5 hours. Wawrinka had played 19 sets over 14.5 hours. Their SF matches were more even in terms of of playing time, with Djokovic needing 4 sets and 2.5 hours and Wawrinka needing 4 sets and a little over 3 hours. Overall, Djokovic has played 9 hours of tennis to Wawrinka’s 18 hours. The game-playing time deficit was clear in the Djokovic vs Monfils match, as Djokovic looked far more energized, especially in the fourth set, and should be a factor in the final as well.

Wawrinka’s best chance of winning is to get into Djokovic’s head early. If he can win the first set, I like his chances, especially if the New York crowd, which has often been harsh on Djokovic, jumps on the Wawrinka bandwagon. If Djokovic wins the first set, I think fatigue will play a major part in the final outcome, as Djokovic’s legs should prove to be sturdier in the later stages of the match.

On the other hand, while Djokovic has the edge where legs are concerned, the arms favor Wawrinka. Djokovic’s arms cannot fail him on Sunday, or it should be a relatively short affair.

I expect a great match. Djokovic is 3-2 vs Wawrinka in majors (not including the 2012 US Open, when Wawrinka played hurt and retired). Four of those five encounters went to a fifth set, and last 4+ hours.

I realize all of this, but at the end of the season, when many top players are trying to manage injuries, it’s still unfair. Either play both halves of the draw every day or not.

I agree that a great start is key for Wawrinka…Djokovic has had arguably the oddest path to a Grand Slam final of any player ever, including not just the default and string of retirements, but Monfils’ weird self-professed “I’m going to lull him into thinking I’m not trying to get into his head” strategy. So it’s fairly difficult to know how well Djoker is actually playing and how he will react physically and mentally to a real test as he hasn’t seen one yet.

Wawrinka is definitely battled tested, included barely surviving Evans in the third round. Does this mean he will be mentally and physically exhausted or will he be full of confidence given his solid record against Djokovic and match toughness? We’ll see tomorrow…I’m hoping for a good one.

It’s the same at every tourney, except Wimby - but even there one half gets two days off (the middle Sat & Sunday) while the other half only has one day off. At the French, the players who start on Sunday have two days off, while the Monday and Tuesday players only have one day off before the second Rd.

Also, Pliskova didn’t have a day off either - so both players had to play their semi the next day.

Djoker’s half had two days off between qtrs and semi’s while Stan and Kei only had one.

There is always going to be an unequal amt of days off between both halves since one side starts a day later but both need to reach the final on the same day.

One can also say it’s not fair that the top players get to play on courts with roofs and are always on schedule while the other players sometimes have to play , back to back to back - even for men who have to play 5 setters. Meanwhile the big name just keep rolling along.

If you play both sides of the draw every day - which is impossible as you’d need a zillion more courts, and a slam would be a one week affair or have no singles play every other day - which would put ticket sales in the tank.

Congrats Angie on 2nd slam! Way to keep your head together after being down in the 3rd. Deserved #1!

KaPlish gave her an excellent match after nervousness gone.

Hopp Stanley!!!

Great match. What a clutch performance. Similar to last year’s final, but this time, the Swiss player came out on top.

Great win.

Good tournament all around. A lot of fun matches to watch this year!

Great match!

I didn’t realize Novak and Stan practice together.

Stan the Man!! Great match!!

Once a fakervic always a fakervic.

Stan. ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^

Great match by Stan. Definitely some gamesmanship from Djokovic requesting a timeout on Stan’s serve, non-changeover. Not sure why the ump granted that; a perk of being #1 I guess. It was clearly intended to ice Stan and try to break back. Did Djokovic not understand that his toes needed treatment at 2-1 in the changeover, on serve? Give me a break. I hate to see that unethical garbage.

WTA final starts at 5am ET.

Couldn’t have come at a better time this year!

I can’t see anyone beating Serena.
