The Tudors

Who is watching this Showtime series?? I have to admit…I am just enthralled with the show. A few liberties with historical fact; but overall not a bad version of what went down. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is mesmerizing…have loved him since The Governess and Bend it Like Beckham.

Any other fans here in the PC?

I’ve been watching and enjoying it. I’d like to see more shows like this.

Love it!
How are they going to continue it when Henry gets fat and yucky though? No more eye candy!

fyi for anyone who has missed the series… Showtime has been rebroadcasting the episodes two at a time. I think tonight is episode 3 & 4. And episode 1 and 2 can be watched online at www.sho.com.

But I wonder…is there one more episode after the 9th…or is the 9th the season finale?

I love the series for its costumes, sets and performances, but to say it takes “a few liberties” with history is putting it very mildly. Combining Henry’s two sisters (Mary and Margaret) into one and then marrying that one to a king neither of his sisters actually married was pretty bizarre.

My potential History major S and I have been watching. Missed Sunday night but it wasn’t a new episode, right? Is episode 9 the season finale? Next week?

The promo is confusing. It says something about watching the final episode, then mentions a season finale. And was it a dream, or did I hear something about the finale being two hours?

It would be nice to continue the series through all the wives. But they would have to make Jonathan RM unattractive, which could turn viewers off. I do wish more shows of this ilk will be produced.

LOL Helimom. Interested anglophiles should check out DVDs of the 1970s BBC series or the the Richard Burton/Genevieve Bujold movie “Anne of a Thousand Days.”

The Showtime chatboards mention an episode 10/season finale, so I do think all these repeated episodes may be leading up to this last episode. And I hear there will be more seasons…a la Sopranos. Have to admit, I don’t really want to see JRM ‘let himself go’ though…lol! Maybe another ‘liberty’ with historical fact is in order…hehe!

HBO has done much the same with their Rome series. They get some of the tiny details amazingly correct, but then they do goofy unhistorical things like ignore inconvenient spouses as though they never existed, invent love affairs, scandals, and lurid happenings that never happened (Weren’t the real scandals enough?), and so on.

I have not watched the Tudors or Rome. I’ve read enough reviews to think I’d be better off with a good history book on either subject. But I did enjoy many years ago the BBC series The Six Wives of Henry the VIII. If my recollection is correct, it was pretty historically accurate.

It’s a good show. A little risque (then again, incestous relationships were all the rage back then), but yes, I do find some inaccuracies with it.

And no, I’m not a parent, but I am over the age of 18.

ahhhh!
I don’t have Showtime and I am dyyying.
:frowning:
I love British history
I love Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Therefore, I predict I’d love The Tudors

I wanna watch it so bad…
I tried watching it online, but the ones on the showtime website stop ever 2 seconds and it’s really annoying.

Idmom06…if you like Meyers, try seeing Match Point (Woody Allen). Great movie—it seems a bit drawn out as you’re watching it, but the last 10 minutes make it competely worth it. I had to see it again to realize how every little detail was significant to the ending.

Loved Matchpoint alamode!! (I’m a Scarlett Johansson fan too…have you seen “Girl with a Pearl Earring”? )

Tried to watch JRM do “Elvis”…not so crazy about that one I have to say.

I’ve read a message board where the primary complaints about the historical liberties have not so much to do with the blending of Margaret and Mary into one lass and marrying her off to Portugal instead of Scotland and France, as they have to do with with the casting of JRM!! Henry VIII was in his 40’s during the Boleyn years and not much younger than Catharine of Aragon and the ‘Tudorists’ are not happy with Meyers’ youthfulness. Personally, I think he is doing a wonderful job in the role…but given that bit of info, maybe I’d like to see Sean Bean play Henry VIII instead. Imagine that…ooo la la! lol! (Don’t get me started on Sean Bean…)

Yes, the series “Rome” was full of historical errors (and I’m no expert), but I was captivated by the show. The plot line about Cleopatra’s son Cesarian being fathered by a soldier rather than Ceasar himself was pretty astounding [and quite hilarious] and, I presume, a complete fabrication.

See if you can find the BBC’s Gormenghast with Rhys-Meyers. He owned it.

I wish they’d not combined Mary and Margaret. Mary’s love story with Charles Brandon (pre and post elderly French king) would make a mini-series itself.
