Got a call this afternoon and I’m off the Andover waitlist :0000

My Daughter is international student.
Still waiting for WPI.

Offers for accepted students are not due for answer until next Wednesday. How would Andover even know know how many of their extended offers were accepted at this point?

As soon as they have an opening they fill it. They don’t wait to see how many openings they have after acceptance day.

They don’t exactly. But they have definitely had students say they’re coming and others say they’re definitely not, so they can start moving where they know they’ll need to.

They may actually know that one of their buckets, or categories, of student is empty. For example if a school only accepted 10 girl day students, and all 10 have declined admission (which is plausible) the school knows it needs girl day students.

Or, if the #1 soccer player declines, the school may go to #2.

Sent you a message!

They may have had returning students unexpectedly withdraw for a variety of reasons. Or they know what their numbers looked like a week out from decision day last year and the number of kids accepting offers is considerably lower on 4/4 this year so they have decided to take a few off the waitlist because based on the current numbers, they don’t expect to hit their target yield on 4/10.

Thanks – I replied! Still not getting notifications, or having messages show up . . .

If we tell school we can do full pay (applied FA), will that increase the chance to get off from WL? Anyone has this kind experience?

it can, but don’t withdraw a FA app if you can’t afford to attend.

It can make a difference. What has changed?

The school may want to know to ensure you aren’t going to be leaving for financial reasons a year or two from now.

ive been wl at two schools that I am more interested in. i saw that some ppl said to call the office and verbally communicate that you are willing to attend and whatnot so I was trying to do just that but when I called today, I guess she was really tired or something, but I first asked “do you take update emails still?” and she said “yeah sure why not
another long email about why our school is soooo great and why YOU will benefit
” and I was
appalled? shocked? mildly upset? at her tone and words so i couldnt get myself to verbally say why I called in the first place. I still want to call up the other school but would you guys reccomend it because if what happened to me earlier today happens for most schools i would rather email
if yes, how should i start? because i feel like its quite awkward saying im whoever applying for this grade
and i will definitely commit and then the other person is just there listening to that declaration and I end the call and its just weird so how should I make the call?

also if I send an email rather than a phone call, should i just send straight to the admissions office or should i cc my interviewer or?.. sorry this is so wordy and long and thanks for the help!

Congrats!!! Did you email Andover’s AOs or did anything extra beforehand?

I wouldn’t call, I doubt it adds value (vs an email).

I think the schools are incredibly busy right now managing the accepted list, some still have revisit days going on. Also, consider who you spoke to in the office. They know there will be very few if any WL spots. I think an email is better given these considerations. I guess at this point she may have also been saying - you really need to show them - why you in the sea of WL if you are asking them to look past their buckets. Good luck.

This! You probably got a frazzled administrative person who has NO influence on the application process!
I would ONLY email if you have something amazing to add to your resume. At this point with a wait list schools assume anyone who accepted a spot on it wants their school. They have the advantage of knowing, what kind of kid THEY want off of it if they even go to the list. Did their potential quarterback choose a different school? And you play the oboe? They will not be calling you.

thanks, we figured out full pay is not ideal but it is manageable.Do we need to show school any financial proof to assure them we can pay the tuition?

how to withdraw a FA app? Sounds an written letter to communicate with school about our full pay intention is not the way to do?
