The Wait List

You won’t all hear at the same time.

A school might have 5 openings so reach put to 5 students and give them 3 days to decide. 2 might accept. The school will figure out what they still need and go back to 3 students. They’ll eventually be full. But a student who planned to attend may choose not to attend in June, then there will be an offer made then.

You just need to wait.

honestly, instead of overthinking it I believe it’s best to move on with your life and continue thriving . One of my favorite quotes is “chase excellence and success will follow”. if you work hard i’m sure there isn’t a school/college that wouldn’t accept you. and you never know maybe you will get in through the waitlist but detachment is key!

On a day that ends in “y” and on each school’s individual timetable

There is no set schedule; you’ll hear when you hear.

Will schools provide an email update anytime soon? Does this usually happen with schools?

If this is true, then we may all have luck.

Based on a 2024 “FACTs brochure” by the Exeter Admissions team, which I found on the platform “issuu,” (you can just google “exeter facts brochure 2024”) we know that in 2024 (last year), Exeter accepted 470 people, and 369 students accepted the offer. This correlates to a yield percentage of around 78.5% (i.e., the percentage of students that accepted Exeter’s admissions offer).

This year, based on a video from Exeter’s admissions team on Instagram, which is the “GOOD MORNING EXETER” one, we know that Exeter sent 445 admissions. Clearly, they aimed to have 350 students come in to Exeter, as 78.5% of 445 (using last year’s yield rate on this year’s enrollment numbers), totals to approximately 350.

However, if the yield rate is indeed 69%, which is incredibly low for Exeter, then it means that only ~307 students accepted the offer, which means that Exeter needs to now find 43 other kids for class of 2029 (thus accepting 43 kids from the waitlist).

More plausibly, if the yield rate is 76%, as mentioned by others, then only ~338 students accepted the offer, which would mean only 12 students get released.

Hope this helps!

Some do, some don’t.

You really need to get comfortable with the fact that you were not admitted.

This could change, but for most people on the WL, it will not.

Well, this would be nice, but I have no idea why current students would be aware of the yield before any announcements are made. My child attended PEA and worked in admissions, and I can assure you they did not have access to any information about yield or the waitlist. Not trying to crush dreams, trying to temper expectations. (And I also have a child on the waitlist!)

It’s in the Exonian you can see on online too- thats how the current students know.

Do you know if PEA does?

Let’s not give false hope by comparing apples and oranges. This is the Exonian quote:

69.4 percent of admitted students attended Experience Exeter

That doesn’t mean that the admissions yield is 69.4%. Not every admitted student who accepts goes on revisits. International students often can’t revisit due to travel time.

my dad received an email from choate today saying they reached their enrollment target

Agree with this. In fact, that seems a very high number to me, given international students and those who know they’re coming or know the school enough to skip the revisit day.

They may be having a good year.

Did you stay on it?

yes i filled out the form to stay on it over the summer

Taft just sent an e-mail saying that they reached their enrollment target.

Berkshire has just sent an email! Thank you again for applying to Berkshire School. I imagine you have some great options post March 10, but I wanted to be in touch in case Berkshire was still on your mind. We have had some strong returns and are therefore encouraging folks on our waitlist to focus on other schools as we will not be able to offer additional acceptances. If you have already sorted out your plans for next year, please let me know what your future holds! No doubt, you will do wonderful things.

Omg what is going on. How it comes all these schools have decided to send us all these emails at the same time. I am so scared. But you know what guys, at least we tried :flexed_biceps:

I have to think the timing of some of the waitlist emails makes sense, most school likely had a good view of where their yield was a few days prior to A10 and likely made WL decisions that week thru the weekend.

As a parent, I have to also admit that I expected to see slightly lower yields last minute due to broader market and student visa issues… We still might in fact see families walk away from a few thousand dollars before full tuitions are due.

It might also what we already know that there are only so many spots at the top 40 or 50 schools and that those may be impervious to market and social conditions.

Remember love the school that loved you back!
