The Wait List

yes

any updates from between submitting application and now, reaffirm interest, say you WILL go if admitted

i sent mine to ao herself the day of decisions lol

should i send the LOCI to the admissions office, or who should i send it to? my itnerviewer?

Don’t put yourself on a WL if you have an acceptance somewhere you like better. It really just complicates decision-making. Some people feel like they just want to know. But remember, you got into this to go to a school next year, and you have a way to do that! Love the school that loves you.

And if you have no acceptances, it is OK to tell all your WL schools that, and that you are highly motivated to attend BS.

what’s a loci? i’ve been seeing it everywhere

letter of continued interest

Ohhh thank you!

So i’ve already sent my loci that included my continued interest and thank you’s. I didn’t really add like additional updates but i did say if I should provide them with that, i would. Should i email them again about the updates? (They replied with thank you and some conventional answers to my first email but didn’t really ask me for updates)

I was wondering that too

Also, should I send an LOCI to a school that is not my first choice?

i sent a LOCI to my top choice

the admissions officer replied and ask what schools i was balancing, does this just mean what acceptances or waitlists i received?

probably, also how did you formulate your LOCI?

The AO wants to know where you have been accepted.

You should sent a LOCI to any school you would go to instead of schools where you have been accepted. You do not need to tell them they are your first choice, especially if they are not!

If you have any updates to add, like prizes or awards you have won, include them in your LOCI.

So I js got waitlisted to Deerfield Choate Hotchkiss(very surprised, thought I was getting rejected) Loomis and Taft. My top schools are currently Deerfield and then Kent(quite the jump, I got admitted) I have no problem with going to Kent but are there any other ways besides sending a LOCI to get off the waitlist

basically, i thanked their team for their help throughout the process
told some new things i did then ended it off, not really that long + say what u like abt their school

Hey guys! I got waitlisted from choate a yesterday. I was wondering if people genuinely get off the Choate waitlist, as it seems like they waitlist everyone…

basically everyone i knew got waitlisted (international students from china) so i dont think the chances are that big

They actually reject more applicants than they put on the waitlist. Competitive schools like Choate typically accept about 15% of applicants, waitlist another 25% or so, then reject the remaining 60%.

Here comes the most challenging puzzle: there is no way of knowing how many will be accepted off the WL, as the yield is not always predictable. Some years there might be a dozen or so, other years there may be close to none (because of an underestimate in initial yield which leads to over-enrollment. What’s even more unpredictable is the institutional priority of the school. For example, they might be looking for a tuba player or a harpist. Therefore, there is no way of knowing where you stand on the list.

Bottom line - a waitlist is not as bad as a rejection, but you should treat it like one. Send a letter to the AO to reiterate “Why Choate” and advocate for yourself. Then forget about it, and go with your Plan B. If you end up receiving a phone call from Choate, then it’s a dream come true. Otherwise, plan on reapplying later (if you can).

Good luck!
