Yeah I didn’t love Contra either. I like their old stuff better.

I hope they don’t waitlist too much. Honestly at this point - I’d much rather be accepted or rejected instead of waitlisted.

I like Contra, it’s wistful.

So…Friday? I get my frigging wisdom teeth out Friday morning, I’ll be hopped up on pain meds that whole day. I’ll probably hallucinate an acceptance.

wow, you northwestern applicants have great taste in music. hahaha. and aziz ansari is the best.

so is the d-day definitely this week or what?

last year’s decisions came on thurs, so maybe tomorrow?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northwestern-university/675766-northwestern-rd-decisions-thread.html?highlight=northwestern+decisions

Fingers crossed!

Should someone start an RD 2014 Decisions thread? ( :

Oh. Sweet Allah. I forgot to mention Girl Talk.

ocgirl92: franz ferdinand and andrew bird.

if it doesn’t come out this friday…i don’t know what i’m gonna do over the weekend.

I’m happy there’s someone else here who adores Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. From my first listen about 9 months ago, I’ve been hooked. I haven’t suffered burnout form the album yet, which is unusual for a modern alt band, especially one I’m playing as frequently as Phoenix. This isn’t meant to sound braggy, but I remember when the number of views on youtube for the songs Lasso and 1901 were both below 10,000. I remember wondering how such brilliant music wasn’t yet so successful. Fortunately, Phoenix eventually got the credit and fan appreciation they deserved.

For fans of Phoenix, I recommend checking out “The Go Find”. It’s not for everyone, obviously, but I definitely think it’s excellent and worth checking out.

[YouTube - the go find - summer guest](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgUH8HzsG4A)

On topic: I can’t wait for my admissions decision! I am 90% confident it will be a rejection, but it will be nice to know for sure. And boy, would an acceptance sure feel great!

I’m going to assume Girl Talk is, like, Super Amazing live or something, because otherwise I seriously don’t get them.

I’m getting more and more hopeless…

It’s one person, bro tempore. Have you heard him yet? I could even make our class valedictorian nod her timidly Asian head if I throw on some Girl Talk. Instaparty.

The only Girl Talk I’ve heard is this remix.
[YouTube - Grizzly Bear - Knife (Girl Talk Remix)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmD7CvuLxdE)

Grizzly Bear is amazing… also Beach House. Everyone listen to Beach House if you haven’t already.

Also since this thread has been hijacked by musical suggestions, I’ve got a suggestion that’s a marked difference in style from the current beat-oriented electronically-layered suggestions going around:

His name is Jake Shimabukuro, and he’s the most beast ukulele player ever. I have an unbelievable admiration for both his technical expertise and brilliance of composition.

Try to not like this:

Also: Mrmanager, is your username an arrested development reference? I hope so.

And the mash-up suggestions continue…

[Lil’ Wayne x The Office](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CucdaMUku_E)

hurrayyyyy im not the only one who knows about jake shimabukuro =D <3 <3 <3 <3

Gotta say, i’ve been loving florence and the machines recently…and nada surf. Killian’s Red is my new favorite late night lonely driving song mmm…orishas, lex land, needtobreathe, and of course the lovely regina spektor make up the rest of my de-stress list, along with a bunch of stuff that’s already been mentioned.

But really, im digging the musical tastes of everyone on this thread…guess it just goes to show NU is the best ;)

the fact that there are no Super Mash Bros. fans on this board is a disappointment. One of the best mash-up artists out there :D

as for Phoenix, I like their older albums, like Alphabetical, but Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is one of the best pop records of 09.

Contra is eh, Vampire Weekend went to my Bro’s school (Columbia) and he as the resident hipster turned his nose up at them. I like them all-right, but I think they’re a tad overrated.

Modest Mouse is some of the best stuff i’ve heard ever, they’re great live. And Franz Ferdinand is amaazinggg, though for brit rock I prefer stuff like the Big Pink, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, and Frightened Rabbit.

Them Crooked Vultures is amazing, while discussing “mash-ups”, though in a diff. sense. The grit of QOTSA mixed with the bombastic bass of Zep and Dave Grohl’s amazing drumming.

I want to be a music journalist, couldn’t you tell :P

Can anyone suggest some good pop music? I mean, not effin Ke$ha but pop in the vein of Phoenix?

And, dear college gods above,

Please have Northwestern release decisions tomorrow so I’m not alone in receiving absolutely no decisions this week when I really, truly believed the contrary. I know we’ve had our differences and I’ve cursed you before, but could you do just this?

Sincerely,

Wake Up

deadmau, yay for frightened rabbit =) ever listen to dirty pretty things? They’re a bit harder, but have some fun guitar…in the same vein as the fratellis as far as sound and drums go, fun stuff.

and yes, i could tell…i think youre on your way ;)

What kind of pop?

If you’re in the mood for really good Electro-pop, I recommend stuff like Hot Chip, Discovery, Robyn, and the new Gorillaz record. La Roux is like a tighter, icier female version of Depeche Mode. Great stuff.

More rock-y stuff- Broken Bells, SURFER BLOOD OMG LISTEN TO THEM THEY’RE LIKE WEEZER MEETS BEACH BOYS SOOO GOOD, Spoon (new record’s great), TV on the Radio, Great Northern, Metric

fingerscrossed0401: Yes yes yes!

I’ve only heard a few tracks by Andrew Bird, but Franz Ferdinand is amazing.

Thanks for the suggestion slisenberger - I’ll definitely check them out.

I really think that asking about your favorite bands/genres is important on college apps! It definitely says something about the applicant ( ;

no, cello. I’ll have to take a listen! And thanks!

also, I forgot to mention an amazing band of old- Neutral Milk Hotel. Picture, if you will, the Decemberists’ wordiness, but with the melodic graces of stuff like Brand New and Arcade Fire. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea makes me weep.

Also, though I have no intention of attending UChi, their radio station is pretty good. Though, I’m sure NU’s is much better. Let’s all make a CC playlist :P
