My son is appx A- student level in middle school but just crazy Ice hockey this year. He prefers to go Tabor ,nice campus, better dorm and enjoy EC Sport games than Webb,CA and seem doesn’t like Webb 's Dorm, No crew, no ice Hockey and less boarding. While I prefer to Webb because of academic reason. What criteria should I consider for him?

If your son loves crew and ice hockey, Tabor seems to be the better fit. A better fit often leads to a better outcome. Has your son played these sports for some time? It is good to show continuity and dedication to activities when making college applications.

Congratulations to your son for having 2 great choices!

I’m a Webb parent and a very satisfied one. In looking at your list, I think that there are a few things that can be taken out of the equation. First, the dorms are really not very important. Webb’s dorms are fine- my son has been in two different ones now; anything beyond “fine” is really not going to make a difference in any meaningful way. Also, Webb is actually primarily a boarding school; my son is a boarder and according to him it is the day students who sometimes feel out of place, so I wouldn’t consider the “less boarding” feature to be of any consequence. The academics at Webb are great; I have no complaints here at all. The teachers have been fabulous. My kid works hard for his grades and he’s learning a ton. In my opinion, your real question is academics vs. sports. I don’t know enough about the academics at Tabor to advise you there. If they are reasonably strong and have your kid’s sport, then I think that it is probably a reasonable choice. If, however, their academics are middling, then I think academics trumps the sports. All boarding schools have sports; he might transfer his passion to something else. If your son has a very strong preference for one school over the other, though, you might have some problems if you ignore that.
