Alright, I’m probably going to go to Yale this upcoming semester (I think, after EA decisions), but I was trying to compare it to Princeton. I didn’t consider Early Decision for Princeton because I couldn’t pay for it, but I wanted to know the WORST of both places (I have already heard the best).

I am hoping for a general undergrad education, with concentrations on International Relations. What school is better in that? What is Yale better at than Princeton and what is Princeton better at than Yale? Also, although prestige might not be a great factor in the whole scope of things, it might tip one school over another: what school is more prestigious? What school has a better campus?

In terms of prestige, they’re both equal. As of international relations, I can’t help you–I know Yale’s polisci department is outstanding, but IR is slightly different. Did you apply to SFS at Georgetown?

Princeton has the wilson woodrow school of international affairs (or something to that aspect) and it is very competetive (juniors and seniors only) but very respectable

Yes-- woody woo is for international relations specifically so if that’s what you want to do, Princeton has that benefit.

The worst of both schools? Well, Princeton’s social scence- eating clubs, the prententious stereotype. Yale I guess… New Haven. Princeton’s campus is a lot safer.

You’re not going to come up with anything that is a big enough negative to knock either school out of the running. You have to visit. If you actually get into Princeton RD and have to make this decision, visit both and talk to people in the department. Then go by your gut as to where you will thrive.

Even if Princeton gives you more, you can turn around and tell Yale about it, and if they want you, they’ll match it. That’s what one Harvard-Yale cross admit I know did last year; Harvard made her a better offer, but she told Yale about it and Yale matched it.

As for the schools, Princeton’s preppier than Yale and other comparable schools. Also the residential colleges at Yale are, IMHO, much better than Princeton’s eating clubs. But both schools are fantastic in IR. If you end up getting into both, you should visit both and see which you like better.

Actually, Princeton accepts a higher fraction of public school students for its freshman class than Yale does - or at least this was true for the Class of 2008.

I think Princeton is equal to Yale, but Yale is a little more highly rated. But if going to slightly less prestgious school is no big deal, I’d pretty much flip a coin.

It’s such a personal decision, what you view as a negative is somebody else’s positive. I doubt they’ll match the avg. acceptees fin. aid package- maybe someone who they can’t afford to lose. Both are fantastic in IR, but the woodrow school is no easy task to get accepted into.
