Wow, @foxinsock, you’ve got some tough choices to make (and more on the MT board, I think).
List the college and your name below as follows. When adding your acceptance please copy and paste this heading along with all the following information. List the colleges alphabetically. If you are adding a new entry try and make it in red by doing this:
To use red, you would post it like this BUT YOU CANNOT HAVE ANY OF THE SPACES INSIDE THE BRACKETS SO REMOVE THEM:

The official admissions packet came from UNCSA today. I love that, on the back of it, there is the fighting Pickles mascot, and it says Congratulations in all caps. They mercifully take the guess work all out of it!
@YardleySisa We loved that packet!!
Cjenny2, in every interaction we have had thus far with UNCSA, they have impressed me with their kindness. Is your son or daughter going to accepted students weekend? We will be there.
I don’t think there is one for Design and Production.
We love the school!
My S was wait-listed for the acting program at the University of Evansville. Can anyone tell me if U of E has a good program?
My S was wait listed at BU. Does anyone know about the wait list? Is it ordered, or are the grouped and then looked over again as spots open up? Would it be helpful for him to submit anthin else, and what might that anything else be?
Thanks.
Evansville is very highly regarded, though small and kind of away from the theater world. A girl a few years ahead of my son went there undergrad and ended up doing her MFA at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, which is a very tough admit, so it must be good training.
Evansville is known for its graduates’ success in gaining admission to great MFA programs, often right after undergrad. @whileyoung, I’m surprised your son would apply without knowing whether it was a “good program,” though, so I’m guessing he hasn’t visited either. This is a place where, in our experience, a visit is crucial, as the setting and school culture (both program and university overall) are distinctive and may or may not be a good fit.
@TwoSwellKidz, I wish I knew more specifics about the BU waitlist, but I can tell you that if your son is truly interested in attending, it’s always good to write and tell them that, and he could include any updated information about grades and relevant accomplishments in his message. He could check with his college/guidance counselor about adding anything else, but he’d probably want to err on the side of caution. At our school we sometimes send an additional recommendation, very tailored to the school and to the student’s ongoing work as a senior, but that’s for general admissions, not theater. Also worth asking about financial aid for waitlist admits (if this is a concern) as that can vary from school to school. If it’s really his first choice, I think he should let them know, but only if he can honestly say that he would definitely attend if admitted.
Thank you Jkellynh17 and Times3 for the feedback. We are planning a visit to U of E. The question about the program is mine. It has been tough finding information online, and even the seasoned stage moms I have asked could not tell me anything about the program. Cost and scholarships offered are also a big factor in the decision making process, so the more information about a school the better. That is why this thread is such a great source - thanks again!
If you don’t mind my asking, @whileyoung, does he have other good options, or is he really hoping for this one to work out?
My son and I visited Evansville the summer before his senior year, met with an acting professor, had a tour with a BA student, and my son liked it enough to apply, although it wasn’t a top choice for him. He auditioned on campus and was glad he saw it in action during the school year, as he got a very different impression of the school, which wouldn’t have been a good fit for him personally (he also didn’t care for the area, but that’s different for everyone). By the way, it was his only really bad audition experience–just awful, in several ways–and he was not surprised to be turned down artistically! However, he and I both really liked the curriculum there, which had some unusual options including a BS degree that left room for a somewhat wider range of core classes than the BFA. He has known a couple of kids who went there and they seem enthusiastic. And if your son is interested in getting an MFA later on, then it’s good to know that their placement seems to be excellent in this regard. I wonder if you can see a show when you visit, or if he can sit in on a class or two?
Has anyone heard from The Hartt School for RD yet?
@lgr915 Don’t be down on yourself because to get a callback from Juilliard is Awesome. My S auditioned in Jan. And didn’t get a callback. You should be Proud!
Has anyone heard from Rutgers yet?
@trent003 - my son heard from Rutgers in late Feb - but that was bad news, not good. So, no news is probably good news (at least waitlist news).
My S was wait-listed for Rutgers - that was in early February.
Times3 - Yes, my S does have other options. He decided a little late in the game to major in acting, so we have not been on many college vistis, and, of course, fitting them in now is really tough. We would like to see a production when we visit Evansville, but now it looks as though it is going to be a very quick trip. We’ll see…
@whileyoung my D was accepted to Evansville over the summer. She went for a visit in November and saw their production of Macbeth. She said the production was very high quality and the talent was great (all the men in the production had beards and she thought that was awesome coming from HS theater where maybe 1-2 boys could easily grow facial hair). Her interactions with Evansville students has been great and she really liked John David Lutz. The abroad program at Harlaxton castle is one of the best college abroad programs out there.
She wasn’t a fan of the location, though, and just didn’t dig the vibe of the town. An urban campus was exceptionally important to her. If you don’t think that would bother your S, then you are likely to find it more appealing than my D.
One of my D’s friends attends Evansville as a freshman this year and scored a decent role in Macbeth, so knowing that freshman perform there might be a plus, too.
