I am considering to major in Drama because I have an enthusiasm for acting. However, I do not know much about the drama department. What are drama majors like? Btw, I am a transfer 3rd year. I have heard that people seldom see those who major in Studio Arts because they need to spend like 10+ hours doing coursework. I don’t know if this kind of situation applies to a person with a drama major. Hopefully someone can help me answer this question.

I know it is true for art, though you should realize everyone here spends 10+ hours/week doing coursework. Art just needs to go to a studio to do it, while other majors have their pick of libraries, dorms, etc.

I know someone who did the costume design part of drama, and she made time for friends and so on but she was always busy.

You don’t have to major in drama to be involved in plays here.

Is the drama major do-able in 2 years??

Yeah, pretty sure that a drama major is doable in 2 years as long as I complete the 33 credits required for the major. As far as I know, the drama department offers many courses each semester, so it wouldn’t be much of a problem.

The reason I am asking whether majoring in drama is demanding is that I plan to go on to pharmacy school when I graduate, so I want to make sure that I have time to study for my PCAT during the school year.

If you want to study pharmacy, are you sure you shouldn’t minor in theater and major in a scientific field? Not only would admissions be easier, but I believe pharmacy school itself would be easier with a strong science background.

The drama major is definitely do-able in 2 years (a good friend of mine was a 3rd year transfer and is graduating on time), but it’ll take considerable planning because a lot of mandatory courses are only offered once a year. Your amount of free time really depends on if you’re in any productions. I was in one at the beginning of this semester, and it was definitely a huge time commitment. It’s not a conservatory program, so you’re not spending hours and hours in acting studios or anything, but you still have to work hard, like in any regular class. If you have any questions about the major, feel free to PM me :)
