How are the arts at UVA? My daughter got into UVA this year and loves going to see the theater and things like that, so I was just wondering how everyone thinks the program at UVA is. Thanks.

There are constantly productions in UVA throughout the year. First Year Players known as “FYP” is an organisation that brings all students interested in performing for the arts/production. Upon starting your first year in UVA, you will be invited to audition for a popular production comprised of new first-year actors only. This is extremely competitive. However, there are other productions (available for auditions) if you don’t make the cut for this one.

In short, UVA has plenty of opportunities in the performing, arts/theater.

The town it’s in, Charlottesville, is supposed to be really active for the arts too. We visited during the school search and the community theater, Live Arts, is run like a professional theater. We saw a GREAT show there, couldn’t believe it. There’s also a Shakespearean theatre a few towns over, like half an hour away, that does plays all year. So if she would be in a good environment that’s very supportive of the arts, I would say.
