Theatre audition

I am a junior in high school and i have been doing a lot of reasearch on colleges. i want to major in theatre (acting) and for some of the schools i want to attend they require you to preform specifically a shakespere monologue. i have never really had experience with many classical plays (only Greek) but they require shakespere. how should I deal with this? i mean i probably have another 1/2 a year or year until i actually audition, but i am not at all trained in shakespere. i live in ct - should i take a class? if so, where? has anyone else been in this situation? any guidance would be great, thanks!

First, good on you for getting this process started early! A couple of suggestions for audition coaching: Is there a drama teacher at your school? If so, he/she may have suggestions for acting coaches. Is there a childrens theater somewhere within striking distance? They may also offer an auditioning class. Or, just try out for one of their productions, and spend time observing the process!

Out here, there’s something called Seattle Children’s Theater that is quite well regarded. They offer lots of acting classes for kids of all ages, and the big summer production class is by audition. The production class itself is pretty expensive, but they do a 90 minute audition workshop class that’s free.

Also, the drama department of your local community college may be able to direct you to a coach.

Break a leg!

thank you for answering!
