Things That Really Annoy You

Adding to my kids and dinner vent- Recent HS grad asking me to make a specific meal. A meal that I rarely make due to it being high in calories and not a favorite of H. Plus being time consuming to make.I agree to make due to it being her graduation weekend. She tells me as I am making it that she wants to eat at 5:30 since she wants to go out later with friends. I say No. I get a text around 6, is the macaroni ready? I text back it will be ready at 7. She comes home from her friend at 7:05, sits down to eat, gets up from the table and announces she is headed back to her friends. Not without mentioning to her sibling that the macaroni leftovers are only for HER. No offering to help with the dishes. She did at least say Thank you for making it.

This happens to me all the time at work: A customer calls and says – or rather, announces – “This is Joe Smith.” Pause. I always get the sense they are waiting for applause or the sound of rejoicing. Seriously, Joe, just get to your question. I don’t know who you are; believe it or not, you’re not our only customer. I don’t have time for you to wait for the celebration which you seem to think your name evokes.

Stores that sell all sorts of baking pans but no cooling racks.

I just hate grocery stores that expect you to pack your own groceries.

Today: My husband. Thanks for giving me a place to safely say this.

I’m annoyed with my sister.

And my computer, which has twice deleted a very long post which I had typed about being annoyed with my sister.

I’m still stuck on using 's when you want an s. It’s getting worse and thus more annoying.

Ah well.

Parents who lie or are seriously deluded about their children’s intelligence and accomplishments. Eg. the mom who mentions all the Ivies her D is visiting when D only has a 1900 SAT and no significant EC’s. Parents who brag that their children NEVER have to study, always have their homework all done by the time they get home from work, and yet get all A’s. Parents who exaggerate or misrepresent their kids’ activities or careers. Eg. mom who says her child is a kinesiologist when he’s a phys ed. teacher (no masters degree either); mom who says things like “My D is in neuroscience at X University” meaning she’s a sophomore pre-med undergrad who one day wants to be a neurologist. Parents who do any or all of the above deliberately to make naive, honest, insecure moms feel their children don’t measure up.

Having to go downtown to buy a new vacuum cleaner the Monday before Thanksgiving, since we have 10 guests coming and the old cleaner is belching dust (and we’ve replaced the filters).

People that say their dog flunked out of obedience school: No, the dog’s handler did.

Things That Really Annoy You

Junk mail that is made of paper reinforced with plastic designed to resist my routine of tearing it in half and throwing it in the recycle bin rather than opening it. So instead of grabbing it and shrish!!! (the sound of me ripping the envelope in two, I get “uhhh… uhhh! …argh!” What? I can’t even tear an envelope! That REALLY annoys me!!! :D

Here’s one – I get annoyed with one of my neighbors with a great huge big lab who keeps bursting thru the electric fence and charging me when I’m running in the morning. The talk literally knocks me down practically. And everyone thinks the dog is swell! No, there’s a law for a reason that requires you to restrain your dog. I also have a dog. I do not subject my neighbors to my dog.

sewhappy, it could be worse… as I was reading your post:

 • cooking up gallons and gallons of meth next to my house…*

lol!

Nah – it’s the other neighbors with the chow that do the meth lab.

Really - a FIVE OUNCE CAN OF TUNA? What the heck am I supposed to do with ONE five ounce can of tuna? It annoys me when manufacturers try to trick me with downsized containers…especially when it eventually ends up almost half the size of what it used to be. I’m not stupid. Really guys, just raise the price already. Pretty soon it’s gonna be the size of a thimble.

My DD’s roommate who lives too far away to go home for TG and who declined my DD’s invitation to come to our place and who just texted my DD that maybe she will change her mind tomorrow and that we might need to drive all the way back to pick her up. She’s thinking it over. Yikes!

People who turn on their left turn signal after the light turns green so you’re stuck behind them when you could have gone into the other lane if the inconsiderate idiot had given a thought to the people behind.

People who think it’s ok to wait for your parking space AHEAD of where you pull out so they can just back in. The proper, sensible, rational thing is to wait behind so the person pulling out can exit into an empty, protected lane, then pull forward and back in. By waiting AHEAD, they force the exiting car to be broadside to traffic and to travel over 2 lanes instead of 1. Dangerous and truly inconsiderate. I now refuse to leave if a person does this. I’ve even walked over and explained that I’m not going to leave because of what they did.

People who leave plastic packing peanuts in open boxes in the garbage so they can blow all over the street. Lazy jerks who can’t take a few moments to avoid wrecking things for others.

A somewhat lesser peeve: people who grab seats in a cafe before they order so the people who are already in line, who get their coffee, etc. first have nowhere to sit. Somewhat understandable and not as annoying as the campers, the doofi - plural of doofus - who spend hour after hour monopolizing all the tables and who often pile things around them and on empty chairs to discourage others from trying to use the space. I applaud cafe owners who kick these people out.

People who do things like stream movies using public wifi. Yes, it’s slow because of people like you.

Possibly the worst: that at every stoplight now you have to beep to move the car ahead because he or she is staring at a phone. This kind of thing degrades society because it encourages every driver to beep right away because we can no longer trust the fool in front of you is paying any attention to driving.

It really annoys me that my H thought he was doing me a favor by deciding that my burner drip pans should be thrown away and replaced with new.
Except the new ones don’t fit.
Couldn’t he have waited till after Thanksgiving?

–Itchy, scratchy tags sown into clothes (especially at the neck). The first thing I do is cut them out.

–The family around the corner with the 12 cars in the driveway, kid sized motorcycles in the front yard, and the pit bull they let roam the neighborhood.

–Leaf blowers at 7:00am

^^^Those printed on “ouchless” tags on t-****s that peel after two washings and itch like crazy, but I can’t cut them out cause they are melded onto the shirt.
