Things to know about berkeley as a freshman?

Hi, Im going to Berkeley next year in the engineering department, IEOR. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on things to know before i go to use through-out my years there, in general, socially, acadimically, within engineering, within IEOR, and all of thoose good things like honors societies and special programs and such. In high school there were programs and clubs like CSF, NHS. Things like if you take classes at junior college you get highschool and college credit, a hidden resource, and other little knick nacks that helped out your application, any things like that in college that will help out my resume? Any advice would be great, where to live, what frat to consider if i want, great places on campus, best teachers, anyhing. Thanks for any help.

Basically what are some of the best opportunities that I should take advantage of on campus.

Gee, no wonder no one has answered to this post. LOL

Well, before you can receive any answers you might want to describe yourself because Cal is very diverse and (in my opinion) self-segregating, at some level. So, if you want advise, then go ahead and describe yourself so that people can give you advise that can benefit you the most.

I mean, there are frats for hispanics, asians, whites, non racial, coed, etc. So if you are hispanic I would recommed RZA ( the gamma’s) and so would continue if you were white or asian. This is an example of what I mean by describing yourself to get useful advise.

Oh, and try to post on the main UC Berkeley forum since this 2011 forum really doesn’t get that much traffic as the main one.
