Things You Are Grateful For

That’s more like it!

Since the early days of the pandemic, I’ve been grateful to not having to worry about food, shelter, and…more than enough clothing to get through. I get to isolate with my best-friend husband, and, even in better times, our needs are simple.

It’s a special blessing, though, that our one major activity has moved online. We normally play bridge 4 or 5 times a week, and travel to tournaments a few times a year. There is no longer any face-to-face bridge, but we can play in virtual local clubs at least once every day, or in various games 24/7 with players all over the world. It’s not the exact same thing, of course, but it’s a fine way to stay connected with other players and enjoy the intellectual challenge of the game.

Online bridge, for the time we play, requires close focus that helps distract from all the stuff that’s not so great.

Today, I am feeling particularly grateful that I am not one of the heroes & essential workers who have to don PPE each day, just to put food on the table.

My thesaurus and my dictionary.

P.S. My “mini-thesaurus” has no synonyms or antonyms for the word “thesaurus”, but it does include the word “thesaurus” as a synonym for the word “dictionary”.

I have never been so grateful for a Tuesday in November, as I am for this coming November 3rd. I sincerely hope I will be able to post this same sentiment on November 4th.

Grateful to be quaranteaming with loving husband, with DD and grandbaby living only a few blocks away! Also glad to be retired with time to enjoy said grandbaby and with sufficient income to be comfortable. We are very blessed.

I am and have been so incredibly blessed that I don’t even know where to begin so I won’t. Basically everything.

I hugged my 30 yr old daughter for the first time since February, of course both of us masked. It was the best hug I have ever had. I am also grateful that election day is my birthday, and I only want one gift.

Vote!!

A holiday day off from work. This is the second year we have gotten it off. As a bonus, H had to work. These days are soooooooo rare. I sat on my butt and did little to nothing and nobody was around to make me feel guilty. I took a 2 hour nap and read an entire book.

Thankful that my son is OK. Only a month after the explosion in Beirut that occurred 2 1/2 miles from his apartment, he woke up in the middle of the night to lots of smoke. He’s on the 8th floor. A firefighter came by and told him it was too smoky to go to the lobby so he should stay on his balcony! He said he was really frightened. It turned out OK, but yikes. Apparently, the building has no smoke detectors or sprinklers. I know people like to rag on the US, but we do have something called “building codes” which are lifesaving. I am thankful for codes, too!

Tea. Today was a bad day and without many cups of tea it would have been impossible to get through.

I’m grateful for kindness good people show to others. It makes up for meanness and hatred which is trickling down from our politicians. These are tough times, offer a little more sincerity and kindness in every encounter you have.

^^Yes, people are kind. My book club is going in on some gifts for our friend whose son ended his life two years after her husband passed away from cancer. We decided to get her a gift certificate to a local yoga studio. When we told the yoga studio her story, the owner said she would match our gift! What a kind thing to do.

Home, warmth, that we can argue about whether to keep the ACs in the window when we turn the heat on, that we can pay our bills and don’t live paycheck to paycheck. That my company is giving me an “early retirement package” when I’m ready to retire anyway, and which will make retirement more comfortable. That we apparently can have a comfortable retirement, and we have a child who is not looking for an inheritance.

The smell of a freshly laundered mask!

That DS is remakably even-keeled and positive in the face of adversity.

That so many birds have found my feeders.

That my sister and I can find things to chatter about daily, even when neither of us is leading an interesting life.

Interested and entertaining friends.

Let me count the ways…

Today’s gorgeous fall weather and cocktail hour on the porch! (Cheers, @alh!)

Valium.

Retirement income, so no worries about shelter, food or other necessities. I find other things to worry about, so the valium is helpful these days (am working on reducing the worrying.)

That all of our parents passed when they did, even though I miss my dad and my in-laws.

A grandchild we hadn’t expected.

The honesty & willingness to share of posters.

Today, I am grateful H has finished 14-days quarantine, without event! I’m also grateful that he is not (yet!) complaining about ‘what’s for dinner?’! He’s a big diner-outer, and seven months of home cooking three times a day, seven days a week, is his own personal torture!
