Does anybody here think that perhaps a 3rd party may, while not win, severely impact this upcoming election in a way we have never seen before?

The problem is, almost no Republican will vote for Clinton or Barack. Almost no democrat will vote for a Republican. Neither party has enough of a majority of the voters to win without votes from another party. However, many people are sick of both parties and may favor a 3rd, independent candidate.

Ron Paul for 08! And yes, I’m both sick of republican with their conservative, stubborn, aggressive view on the world and democrats with their “Let’s all LOVE black lesbians with multiple disabilities!”.

However, majority of the people isn’t progressive (like me, muhehe 8) ) and views the parties a little differently.

people would vote for Nader, I think, if they knew how much he’s bloody done for this country. Clinton, Obama, McCain haven’t contributed nearly as much as Nader.

Of course, you know, he is the reason that Gore lost the election (oy).

then it might end up like the 2000 election, upsetting the vote to an extent. i dont think this country can handle a third party, not now anyway.

The green party is the only party that stays away from big corporate bribes. Unfortunately that means they have no money for advertisements, and don’t get any votes. :(

why is everyone so psyched about Ron Paul? He’d completely destroy the new deal. the closest the modern world ever got to laissez-faire capitaism was in latter 19th century america–remember how ineffective those presidents were? remember the unbridled corporatism and those dreaded trusts?

I was going to vote for Guiliani because he seemed to cross party lines the most. However, he lost my vote with his support of BSL (Breed Specific Legislation).

Hmm, yeah I agree. There are a lot of strong opinions already about these candidates-and it isn’t even that close to election time. Even people I know who have like zero interest in poltiics are like, OMG! I HATE ____! So I think a 3rd option is definitely viable. Especially when a lot of the candidates (suprisingly) on either side have similar views. Like, I won’t vote for a candidate who supports govt funding for abortion (don’t attack this, just bringing it up as an example)-I’d even vote against my party line or a 3rd party.

I have to say that when I first read this, I was like…"Oh no, another CC wants to get a line on his application, “Ran for president”…ha

I LOVE RON PAUL. I’m also really suprised so many people have even heard of him. I actually consider myself a Republican, but a very liberal one. I’d strongly considering voting for Ron Paul if the Republican candidate sucks.

Also, I live in a really conservative area, and as far as democrats go, Obama is the one. NOBODY likes Hillary Clinton over here, but I have even seen two or three Republicans say they like Barack.

I’m probably being really optimistic here, but I’m hoping Barack will win. I don’t think there will be much of a third-party impact.
